So I have a buddy that buys and sells cars and he told me he uses mineral spirits for the carpets....I was pretty amazed when he said it but he says it will take absolutly anything out of carpets...have you ever heard of this?

I've heard the same about non chlorinated brake cleaner

I'd be a tad concerned with flammable left overs and smell.

Bill

Back in the 80s I used to sell pallets of chlorinated brake cleaner to TWA to clean the carpet in its planes.

Good thing airlines have moved past that method.

Yeah, as noted below, the chlorinated would seem to be the better choice as the non-chlorinated is usually acetone. Of course most of the chlorinated solvents are gone or on their way out.

Why? Pretty much dry-cleaning fluid. Of course it depends on the soil.

Mineral Spirits will cut grease , but I dont think it will do much for soil. Ive used brake clean to clean carpets on my service van and it does work. The brake clean I used main ingredient is perchochoride which is used in dry cleaning clothes

Perc and 1,1,1 Trichlor are the ones that clean well. Some states outlawed its use, which is why there are the "green" non-chlorinated ones out there.

I have yet to talk to a user who preferred the green version.

Yeah, remember the 80's? "you gotta get rid of that perc and replace it with 1,1,1--everybody will get cancer!" Then in the 90's it was "you gotta get rid of that 1,1,1 there's a hole in the ozone! we've got a great new solvent that has reduced ODP, it's called perc!" Anyway, acetone sucks for a brake cleaner, nothing like 1,1,1 or Freon.
