Hey guys, what do you think is the minimum psi needed to effectively clean an auto, all tasks considered? I currently use an electric 1850 psi unit that works well but am in search of a smaller, more compact unit. I know that I'll have to sacrifice some psi and gpm but don't want to get something that won't get the job done. I also have a foam cannon, so the unit will need to perform well with it.

I would say 1400 as a minimum and 2200 psi as a maximum.

You also want to be carefull how close you hole the pressure washer to the paint.

i know that you have psi AND gpm in mind.

almost any pressure washer will put out enough psi to remove what someone would want to "knock off" the paint.

the question is, is enough water coming out (GPM) @ the same time to wash what was "knocked off" away.

i'd shoot for a pw that puts out 2 GPM

Also keep in mind that the ratings you see on the $150-$250 pressure washers are a lot like buying a car stereo amp at Wal-mart. It may say 1000watts of power on it, but it's probably more like 50watts.

Now if you go and look at a pressure washer like Camspray, 1500psi is going to mean 1500psi. :dblthumb2:

I agree with Sully though, 1400-2200 should be more than enough....1750psi is about perfect IMO.

Agreed, GPM is important as well.
