Hello guys my name is Alex. I joined the forum about a week ago and been lurking around getting as much information as I can because in the next few weeks I will start my mobile car washing business. I currently work at a Lowes distribution center on weekends and I am off four days during the week. I'm going to keep my job and see how things go. Hopefully business is good and can soon leave the job there because I can not imagine doing that type of work much longer I have been there for about a year and a half. I saw a quote a while back that made me really want to start this business even more "Build your dreams, or someone will hire you to help build theirs", I want to be the one doing the hiring to help build mine. I'm 19 years of age and I have a good friend "20 years of age", a brother also 20, and one of his coworkers that will be helping out as well. Me and my friend will cover the week days and my brother and his coworker will take over on the weekends. I have some experience washing cars I've always been the one keeping up with the maintenance washes for the cars at my house. I can't stand seeing dirty cars and I've learned so much on my black truck that I bought back in 2010. I've done tons of research on what products to use and what equipment is good to be effective and efficient to finish up cars in little time. I just want to let you guys know what I have done so far and I would greatly appreciate it if you guys could tell me what I'm leaving out.

The name of the mobile car washing business is going to be Texas Shine mobile car wash & detail. I already have my truck being wrapped for advertising, it is a 2010 Black Crew-max Toyota Tundra and will have my equipment in the bed to save money instead of purchasing a detailing trailer. The pressure washer I will be using is an Electric 1800 psi by Clean Force. I used "ExpressDetails" thread for my setup. Thank you for this thread it was really helpful. http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...roper-pressure-washer-set-up-foam-cannon.html.

I have an MTM foam cannon that I just ordered and most of the products I will be using are from chemical guys. I have a compressor, generator, and Rigid wet/dry vacc with blower. I need to find a 100 gallon water tank & pump. If you guys could point me in the direction to a good set up I'd appreciate it. I'm still a little confused on how the water tank and pump work. I still need to make business cards, facebook page, and uniforms so that we can look as professional as possible. I also already have an insurance that covers up to $100,000 in damages, Tax number and have got the OK by the city.

Some other questions I have are how do I set the prices, in other words what are some reasonable prices to start at? I'm mainly just going to start out with exterior and interior cleaning for now because I need to show my partners how to use the porter cable polisher and proper procedure on waxing a car. We are also going to do bikes, boats, and RVs. Also what should I expect during start up and how do I manage my clients? Do I have them make appointments? I'm also a little confused about that so if you guys that have mobile car washing business could chime in so I can kind of get a better understanding on how to keep everything flowing good. That is all the questions I can think of for now but I will come up with some more later

You might wanna check out Renny Doyles book. I think it would answer a lot of questions that you are having. It helped me.

Ditto on Renny Doyle's book, you should not even consider starting this business without at least some basic business education.

If I could comment on your proposed name..

Texas Shine Mobile Wash & Detail is just too long. I suggest shortening it up significantly.

Maybe Texas Shine Detailing? Or Texas Shine Mobile Detailing? Or even Texas Shine Wash & Detail would be better. Say it out loud and ask yourself, would this sound good answering the phone with this name?
Just a suggestion.

:iagree:

I'll definitely check out that book and gain as much knowledge before I start. Yes the name is a little long I'll keep some off those names in mind Mark thank you.

I would stay away from the car wash name . I know from experience its an under sell right off the bat . The company I ended up buying used the carwash name and now I'm fighting tring to get out of doing basic car washes and get more into detailing .

When setting your prices, consider you target market. The age, area, household income, assets, vehicle price range, occupation and other factors. Your prices will determine the vehicle's you detail. One thing I am learning is that people with really beat cars don't want to pay top dollar for a detail.

So if you want to do nice cars, prices that exclude beaters but are appealing to nice car owners would help you.

Also, try listing your prices from greatest to least. Most people list from least to greatest as I did (ex. $99 package, $250 package, then $500 package).

The problem is, most people don't make it to the $500 package and settle for the $99. Flip them around however and most people don't even want the $99 and opt for the $250. They also expect less from the $99 because it can be played down as a service that's just entry level.

Hope that makes sense and helps! Also, try and get a honest successful business mentor that has experience that can guide you, they don't have to be in the same industry but service related would help.

Best Wishes!

Mike

What part of Texas are you in? I only ask since i googled the name "Texas Shine" and it came up with a bankrupt car wash service that left many people unhappy. You may not want your business associated with that even though it wasnt yours. I would consider a different business name IMO.

Yea I just looked it up as well :/ a loot of pissed off people and I am in North East Texas in Sulphur Springs. That Texas shine auto wash was in San Antonio but I surely don't want people to think I am affiliated with them.

Alex,

My name is Nathan Alhades. I am the owner of Texas Shine Auto Detailing in Austin. Texas Shine Car Wash in San Antonio screwed over many many many customers all at once using Groupon. Fortunately for my business, we run a tight ship, and as a mobile and fixed location detailing business it is difficult to confuse us with the "car wash." On the other hand, Texas Shine Auto Detailing has been in business for 10 years. I suggest you continue your brainstorm for business names. If you would like to discuss the matter further, I can be reached M-F 9am-5pm at 512-266-6665.

Kind Regards,
Nathan Alhades

Sir I must say that was a very friendly, helpful, and classy way to tell the original poster that his business name was taken.

OP, I guess its time to brainstorm a new name! Lots of opportunities out there, don't get down.
