So I have a Mobile detail business and I’ve always wondered this questions. I did call the city (San Antonio) about mobile detailing. The city said I don’t need a business license or permit. Might call again don’t exactly remember. He said I do need to register with the local water agency for operating a pressure washer? You know people who work for city are very childish. It got me thinking as far as water for detailing, bring this question?

1. Can we as Mobile detail business go and wash a clients car let’s say at Wal mart? Since it’s private property? Can I get in trouble for doing this?

2. How about apartments complexes?

3. Streets where are is a lot of traffic?

Basically anywhere that draws attention, and well people get phone happy.
Don’t want pops rolling up on me and get a fine.

Any and all private property or business I ALWAYS get permission from the owner, no way around it.

Wow, didn’t know that. How about when washing near a busy public street? Who’s permission do I get?

You need to do your research and consult the local business that you may be in front of, some have responsibilities to the street and some don't. If they don't you have to speak to the city office and make sure it's ok.

Oh ok, thanks man. Here in San Antonio, it’s hard to get answers. When I do get someone the line they don’t seem to know, but this helps me out. Appreciate It and god bless you man

I've done it in San Antonio, get off the phone and go in person so you have a face to reference and proof you spoke to someone in case things go south.

There are a few other detailers in that area and a handful that have access to the base and can drive on base to go into the housing area on base

99% of your business should be in somebody's driveway. You're over thinking it. I've been in business three years and I've never done a job on a busy public street. I tell my customers if your driveway isn't clear, clear it. If it's not a boat or an RV I don't work in the street period.

Yes guess so, I was just referring to clients that are like at Walmart worst case scenario or but I guess I’ll just won’t risk anything. Not worth it

you can wash on any private property / business , but i first ask the client if the wash is cleared by the building management or security , so you don`t be in a situation to leave the premises while half job. so always ask. most commercial sites ask for COI on their name so they know you are insured, usually 2mil umbrella does it.
also some areas are dedicated for filtering the rain water so nothing that is not biodegradable should be used , so the city drains are not contaminated. onr should do just fine.

i would stay away from streets with a lot of traffic , safety first plus you can get citation if not allowed to park or be there.
good luck

Wow thank you so much for letting me aware. I was asking because just in case someone asked me to.
