You guys who do a lot of detailing... what spots do you see that are on the most missed list by others? Just wondering what areas I'll tend to miss and need to make sure I get to. Ideas, Wheel wells? Underseats that type of thing. Thanks, Dave

Good question. What I've noticed on friends cars are door sills, wheel wells and behind the spokes on the wheels. Most only clean the outer surface of the wheel.

I notice allot of the little things,

Exterior

Product on,

  • Emblems
  • Hood and fender openings
  • Truck and quarter openings
  • Door jambs
  • Stained plastic
Interior

  • Glass streaks
  • Corners
  • Under seats
  • Air Vents

Undersides of door jams, tops of windows cuz they don't roll them down to clean em, around the edges of the middle of the door trim guards, inside the opening of the gas tank, of course around emblems, lower sides of the front and rear bumper, wheel wells properly cleaned, between the seats and the center console, move the seat all the way forward and backward when vacuuming, streaks on inside glass along with not boxing the windows, around air vents not dusted, use paint brushes or an air compressor to blow out interior cracks, underneath seats in mini vans, umm the list goes on depending on the vehicle lol

Great input! Thanks guys. I'm making me a list of things to make sure I hit because every time I miss something I see it latter and it bugs me. This is just for personal vehicles but I'm kind of anal retentive about doing half a job. Now I have a great head start. Just wish our weather would cooperate with me now. OK it's 44 here and just started snowing heavy! I just can't win...&@$*@^%$

One other area that is like the bottoms of the door jams, [underneath side facing ground] is the area above the headlights and center stage with hood open...even if the engine bay is not included, the area immediately underneath the lip is needed for detailing and product. Second area is underneath bottom lip of trunk lid, where when the lid is fully shut, the what"? 1/2" of area is not cleaned, or product applied. Personally I think the body rim around the trunk lid and the area below the rear windshield and the trunk closure space needs addressing...I also have made my list from the above posts...great help--thanks also.

I fall into the streaky windows..I just plain suck at windows...and when it comes to the rear window on my mustang its like you have to be some contortionist to do it..

I've yet to get my Mustang rear window completely clean. I'm pretty sure I could wipe it down daily and still have streaks and film.

Try using crumpled up sheets of newspaper works pretty good in getting rid of glass streaks. Although small angled sportscar rear screens will still be hard to tackle! From days working at a car dealers detailing cars the biggest missed spots are

Door jams/shuts/sills
reverse side of rims
all the air vents and center consoles.

Glass Master Pro Glass and Surface Cleaner

that is an ideal tool for super dramatic angle glass.

re: original question,

i'd have to say 1. door jambs and all related areas 2. inside of wheel barrels and 3. wells. wells are SO easy to clean and dress, i have no idea why people ignore them.

4. would have to be engine bay. it's really easy to ignore it, but a clean one really makes you feel good about your car.

The defroster vent on your dash. I notice a lot of people don't clean the actual vent, Just wipe it off and if you look you can notice the dust collected in there. I always take my detailing bruch and some APC to them.

Also, the space around the side view mirrors. On lower cars, the bottom of the side skirts that faces the road. This area isn't really seen but collects a lot of tar and road grime.

And as others have mentioned, emblems, vents, in between the front seats and the center console, inside the gas cap.

So yesterday it tried to snow twice... just enough to get every thing wet. Now it's 20 outside and to cold to work and Tuesday they are saying anywhere from 1" to 9" of snow. It's all AG's fault! I ordered all this stuff and now every chance I get to start on the cars this crap comes up.
:surrender:

I now have a great list to double check if I ever get to work on our cars again. Thanks.

We have 11* and snow on the ground with more coming. :(

 My daughter is in Boone right now. (last year at APP. St.) She sent me a pic last year of a big snow bank in her parking lot, and then a pic of her car 1/2 burried behind it. She asked when I could come dig her out to clean it. I'm just really ready for it to warm up so I can get to work on mine. I've now got most of what I need and wanna see how great I can make mine look.
