Whats up guys, CM8 here with another review. This time I'm going to be showcasing the new 2013 Mother's LeatherTech.

Now before I begin, I want to formerly apologize for taking so long to write this review. I know I had previously stated I would review this 2-3 weeks ago. I've been extremely busy trying to manage work & other matters.

Now without further a due, lets begin...

The Product

The Mother's LeatherTech system comes in two products. A foaming wash, and a gel. Its basically a 2 step leather cleaning system, each sold separately. The cleaning product is their Foaming Wash, while the Gel is supposed to act as a sealer/conditioner.

Price

LeatherTech Foaming Wash: $7.99
LeatherTech Moisture Infusion Gel Cream: $13.99

Total:About $25 +/- for both.

Directions

The directions are very straight forward. Apply the foam onto a microfiber towel or applicator. Massage the product onto the area to be cleaned, wipe off & buff dry. Its that easy.

As far as the Infusion Gel, its a WOWO product. You simply apply it, and buff dry.

The Application

I will be testing this product on high wear areas of my leather interior, for this test ill be cleaning a small portion of the drivers seat.

I pumped a little foam on a MF towel, the foam doesn't have a specific scent, but its not an overwhelming or bad scent like some leather cleaners. Its somewhat of a fresh scent. This stuff goes a long way & spreads really well. On really dirty leather, a second application along with scrubbing with a soft brush might be required. What I also liked about the foam is that once you press the bottle to release, the foam doesn't keep on running.

Post Cleaning Results

As you can see in the 50/50 photo below, the cleaning ability was GREAT. I was really impressed how quickly this foam wash was able to clean my leather seat without any greasy residue left behind. I only did a small portion of the seat, it fully restored my leather back to its original Ivory color.

The Gel

Time to seal. Upon opening the Moisture Infusion Gel, you'll notice its great scent, smells like Melon! The gel itself has the consistency of a jello-like cream. A wet paste would be the best I can describe it. The gel contains what Mothers calls moisture lock; this aids in protecting the leather to prevent future fading, drying and cracking.

How To Apply The Gel

Since the consistency of this product is not like a lotion, the best way I found to apply is to very lightly dab your applicator pad over the cream, rub very lightly and the gel will automatically stick to your foam applicator. Remember, the thinner you apply the better it will buff off.

I applied the gel, massaged it onto the area I cleaned and buffed off right away. Its important not to let this product dry. Once I buffed it off, the leather felt supple & smooth. It did not give my leather a greasy look which was great. I like leather looking how it should naturally look like.

Water Test

So for real world testing, I sprayed the area infused with the Gel with water. I did not take any after shots with the Gel applied because the look of the leather did not change, which is a great thing because other products then to leave a greasy film behind.

I would also like to point out that I sprayed this using a standard spray bottle. I've seen other forum members use a fine mist sprayer, which naturally atomizes water into smaller droplets.

Overview

You know for around $25 dollars for both products, there are cheaper alternatives. The new 2013 Meguiar's Leather Sealer is one of the, which comes in a kit for around $14.99. Although cheaper isn't always better, and from my experience Meguiar's leather products aren't that great. It is not however recommended for use on plastics, rough leather, suede, or suede like material. It will temporarily darken "some" leather. Always test in an inconspicuous area.

Conclusion

Mother's hit another home run with this product. If you want a quality leather cleaner, Mother's LeatherTech definitely delivers. I really enjoyed using this product. It works fast, its effective and its easy to use. For that, I highly recommend it.

I've always been a big fan of many Mother's products, and these two amazing products will add to my growing collection.

I was waiting for someone to review this. Nice review. Looks like I need to pick this up.

Looks like a decent product. Hard to believe that a Geek let his seats get that dirty. Any connection with Mothers?

Heh, its my car but my wife drives it daily. I get to drive her old beat up clear-coat failure Mitsubishi. No connection with Mothers ;)

Great review as always. Really like the pictures as well.
Thank you much!

LOL!!! I would not consider it bashing at all. Just because Im a Meguiar's fan, doesnt make me a "fanboy".

Fanboy: A person who is completely loyal to a brand or product regardless if it sucks or not.

Clearly, thats not the case with me as I've commented on certain products from Meguiar's, Chemical Guys, & Mothers alike that IMO suck.

Trust me, there are many fanboys here. If you look at my posts whenever someone asks "whats the best wax" or "what polish should I use" fan boys are quick to shout out their favorite brand. Myself on the other hand will recommend 2-3 different brand products, not just Meguiar's OR sometimes not even Meguair's at all.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: Good detailers stick to one brand of products, only GREAT detailers use a variety of different brands. However, I prefer American brands over others :)

I hope you used a conditioner after cleaning.

The Moisture Infusion Gel Cream is a nice product - not greasy or oily, with a matte finish.

Is this pair / cleaner and conditioner designed for use on New Coated Leather?

Thanks - John

Thanks for the great Review.

From the pics looks like some serious cleaning action from the foam wash :xyxthumbs:

Excellent review. The cleaner looks awesome. However, I still wonder about the benefit of using any product like "moisture infusion gel" on coated leather. While I'm sure it leaves the seats very nice after applying, in the product's description it says it "nourishes", "conditions", and "replenishes oils".

It seems even experts (which I'm not) disagree wether or not "conditioning" coated leather is possible or even desirable. Some say the best thing you can do is clean and protect with a barrier like coating, as all you really are doing is protecting the urethane colorant from abrasion.

I know in my own case I've used a lot of conditioner type products that also throw the term "protection" into their description and have not been thrilled with the results over the long term.

The question is: Will this new Mother's product offer any real long term benefit towards keeping leather seats looking "new" over other traditional products that claim to "feed", "condition", "nourish", "replace oils", and also protect.

I don't know.

I do know that I have a shelf full of other products that make such claims. They all leave the seats looking very nice for a week or so and smell great. However, I have used this style of product frequently (until recently) and at 30,000 miles my BMW driver's seat is showing signs of wear comparable to others' cars seats where the owner has done little or nothing to care for them.

A lot of these "conditioner" or "moisture" products remind me of what a glaze is to paint. They work well for a short period after its applied, but over the long term you are not correcting or protecting well.

I would love for someone to come out with a leather product(s) showing evidence of testing (like a seat 50/50 - treated side vrs non treated side) over a period of time showing real benefit of the product in preserving the factory finish and texture of the leather.

It was a great review though. Thanks for doing it, as I'm very interested in the cleaner product. I just wonder what benefits the moisture infusion gel product (and others like it) has (if any) over the long term.

Yes. It's safe for new coated leather. Of course, new may not need cleaning right away.

Nope Mine is Practically new and I currently use distilled water and a mf towel for light maintenance at the moment.

But Im thinking in terms of clients cars that are only a few weeks old to 1 year old and still in good but dirty condition.

I am curious as to what swanic posted about as far as the leather conditioning goes.. especially on new coated leather.. It seems as though no one has a concrete answer on this as to whether or not conditioners are necessary and doing anything for coated leathers.

I see where some of the new nano coatings make sense like L1 for protecting the leather more like a sealant after the leather has been cleaned.

So just curious if coated leather will absorb this conditioner?

The cleaner looks awesome.. but deciding if a nano leather coating would be a better option after cleaning

Thanks

Thank You:

Jrocket, MadMerc, SwanicYouth for taking the time to read my review. Im really glad you guys enjoyed it.

SwanicYouth, I see the interesting point you make about product claims of nourishing & replacing oils. Im not an expert either & cannot give you a legitimate answer. Maybe Forrest can chime in on this.

However, the product label states: Used regularly, Mothers LeatherTech Moisture Infusion forms a protective barrier to keep your leather soft, supple and looking new for years to come.

In my interpretation, the Infusion Gel is basically a Wax or Sealant for leather. Just like wax on a car, it will diminish over time and you have to re-apply it. At least thats the way I see it. As far as long term benefit, I think its just a matter of re-applying.

The gel applies really thin, so I estimate this jar of Infusion Gel will last me a VERY long time.

Either way, users are sure to benefit from any of the two products.

Great review!! Maybe it is a home run product, but this is for sure another home run review ;)

Loved the picture at the end!

Nice review!
I've been using their leather care fx for awhile and it's incredible - all in one leather cleaner and conditioner, so naturally I had faith in these products as well
:xyxthumbs:

Please remember there are both coated and non-coated leathers out there.

CM8's analogy as a wax for leather is very good.

Very nice review man!! Very detailed and well written. The 50/50 shot says it all! I've I had leather seats, I'd be more than willing to try this product. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I hate when leather conditioners give a greasy feeling. I think that this is a great product because it doesn't do that.

PS nice graphics!!
