Mothers metal polish review

I was having a bit of an issue with my brushed aluminum rims as some dirt was not coming off with 4:1 meguiars wheel cleaner. I decided to go with mothers metal polish as it was local and was recommended by friends. I applied by a microfiber and then removed the excess with a clean microfiber, this application was a bit messy, so I went with an applicator which I highly recommend using.

liquid is thin and alot comes out at once
instructions are not exactly clear to first time users
bottle should have a no mess cap or something similar

Overall, it did what I wanted to do and a bit more. With a refined dispenser cap, this could be a great product

I just used this for the first time on the grille of a Rolls. It came out bee-u-tiful!
I agree with you about the dispensing of it. The first time you go to apply some to a towel it's like "HELLO!"
A little bit goes pretty far and it wipes off fairly easily too. I was satisfied with it.

Nice review. I've never used any of the Mothers metal polishes (and they have several). I heard their Billet is top of the line. Im using Optimum Metal Polish right now. I dont do much metal polishing, but now I want to try Mothers and compare.

Ya kmow, I've tried numerous aluminum polishes over the years but I always come back to Mother's. There's something about it that just works, and works well! It's messy yes, but I've used it with a DA, a rotary, by hand... you name it and I've always achieved outstanding results.

Are those factory Ford wheels?

If so, we'd want to recommend another product for use in the future... the photos are a bit small, but they look like they are either polished aluminum (with a clearcoat), chrome plate or chrome clad -- Do you know the the finish?

Our Mag & Aluminum Polish or Metal Polish are recommended only for uncoated polishable aluminum.

I've use Mothers in the past and like it. I didn't like the smell though. Lately I've been using Chemical Guys heavy metal, it works good enough but when I want something stronger I reach for Mothers.

I use the above Mothers Aluminum and Mag Polish. It stays well on the applicator, and works VERY well.

The wheels according to Ford are chrome clad aluminum. I used the mothers polish in the red squeeze bottle not the one in the white can

The California Gold Chrome Polish is what we'd recommend for that finish.

We're glad the Metal Polish worked for you this time, but we wouldn't recommend its continued use on any type of factory finish.

Remember guys, all modern OEM wheels are finished, and never bare aluminum. So whether it's a color coat, clear coat, PVD (in chrome or black chrome), chrome plate or chrome clad -- metal polishes are not appropriate, as they are for bare aluminum only.

There are two common categories of modern OEM wheel finishes:

Coated and PVD wheels -- use paint care products, or our Plastic Polish or PowerPlastic 4Lights also work excellent. This even includes wheels that are called "polished aluminum" as factory polished aluminum wheels do have a clearcoat.

Chrome plate or chrome clad -- use a mild chrome polish like our California Gold Chrome Polish.
