I was one of the people selected to review Mother’s Waterless Wash & Wax (Mother’s WW for the rest of the review). I am currently looking for how I will be regularly washing my car once I go back to college. Waterless and rinseless washes are the two methods I am considering so I was excited to try this waterless wash.
Currently I am using Eco Touch WW and Meguiar’s D114 at a 1:128 ratio for my waterless washes. I have also used Opti-Clean and Utima WW+ at work.
Originally I was going to take this with my when I drove for 2.5 hours to see my birth mother, however we had to reschedule that meeting because something came up for her. I was also going to use this on my dad’s black 991 Carrera S, but he drove that to Omaha for work… So I used it on the car which I care about most: mine.
My car was dirty. Much dirtier than I’d normally waterless wash and even dirtier than I’d like to do a rinseless wash. The reason I decided to test this product without first pressure washing my car is because I plan on doing a light correction and coating it with Cquartz Classic eventually (hopefully in the next week) and any possible marring will be taken care of during the correction process. Currently my car has Duragloss Enviroshield on it. I also tested this on my mom’s black MDX which has nothing on it. Only a small spot on the door though, not the whole car.
I used A LOT of MFT 530 GSM towels and washed the entire car except for the wheels. You will also see that I used almost half of the bottle just to wash my car since it was so dirty. The results on my car were perfect, but unfortunately I don’t have a camera, just my LG G2. My car is a 2010 Acura TSX in Premium White Pearl, so any marring has never been able to be caught on camera by me. I did check with the sun, my LED light, and a halogen at all the angles I’ve used before to look for marring when correcting and I found none. When I go out with my girlfriend tonight I will also check under street lights and under gas station lights and report if I find any.
This product is a wash and WAX and this product does leave something behind, it made my paint slicker and made my mom’s paint slightly slick. I personally hate using waterless washes on cars with no LSP because I find they cause the towel to drag too much; Mother’s WW was the same as every other WW I’ve used in this aspect. Not a knock on Mother’s, just the nature of spraying a liquid on an unprotected surface.
This product worked great on my glass, but did require some extra buffing compared to the Eco Touch to make sure they were streak free.
Here’s what I found most impressive about the product: The Mother’s WW broke down dirt incredibly well. Its cleaning power to me is the best out of all the WW I’ve tried (with Eco Touch’s cleaning ability a close second). It literally made the dirt fall off onto the ground.
Would I buy this product again? Yes I would, but I wouldn’t make it my go-to WW because it is not as cost effective as other concentrated WWs available. I would not hesitate to use this if I needed to grab something OTC however.
The only con that I can think of would be the following:
The sprayer head:
The sprayer head has the same head as the Back to Black Tire Renew. It has a tab you can pull out to narrow the spray. I didn’t find this to be helpful when trying to restrict the spray pattern because the product just comes out more powerfully and still splatters out of the area. Honestly, the sprayer is not bad, but the sprayer head on the Eco Touch WW is so nice that I feel like it enhances the user experience. Does it actually lessen the performance of the product? No, it doesn’t, but I like the Eco Touch bottles enough that I save them and clean them to use them for other products and I wouldn’t do that with this bottle. For my D114 as a WW I use my Rubbermaid spray bottle which is exactly the same as the SprayMaster 5 Year Warranty sprayer. Those things spray a ton of product and I only use them for WWs because they waste every other product with such a large volume per trigger pull. Otherwise my preferred sprayers are the Tolco gray sprayers that are popular. It is true that they leak a bit, but I just use some thread tape and fix the problem myself.
