Behold my beautiful creation using a plastic colander, a few zip ties, and a 3lb weight to keep it stable...

What do you think?

for $7 more (even less with sales going on all the time) you can get a grit guard which is a one time buy and will last forever...

Why people cheap out on buying grit guards is beyond me. While I do appreciate a DIYer, spending money on a grit guard is a no brainer.

Plus it's a family owned business which isn't too common in this industry and I like to support people like that.

I think the reason the Grit Guard works so well is because its designed real well with relation to trapping dirt particles that fall to the bottom.

I like your DIY thinking but I think the design doesn't work well. Because of the dome shape, the dirt particles could potentially slide down the sides instead of into the holes. Plus the holes are too small it seems. I suppose the flat portion may do better but the rest of it, not so much.

Umm, why?!?

Grit guards are available on Amazon for $5-$7 shipped.

I paid $4.68 for my Meguiars grit guards and that included free 2 day shipping too.
You can order a Chemical Guys grit guard right now for $6.45 shipped.

Sorry guys, but in Canada we're looking at a min of $15 cad for these official plastic contraptions. $26 right now for CG's guard. $22 for the accessory that clips on lol. Prices from Amazon.ca btw

The post was by no means meant as a serious/effective replacement for the real thing. More so a joke!

If you want a cheap gritguard in Canada, go to Canadian tire and buy one of the Simoniz gritguard buckets. It's like 8 dollars or 9 dollars for a bucket and grit guard. I picked up four of them last time lol

Nope they are 16.99! It's definitely the best deal I've seen though - I may go ahead and purchase eventually as I'm using a non-circular mop bucket as my rinse and it'd be nice to be able to stack the buckets. Spent more than I should have on buffing products; I know I'm being stingy here lol

A proper grit guard will last a lifetime. This on the other hand, well..I'm speechless
