Well Im tired of hearing my wife complain that my car is detailed and hers is not. She took my car today to work so of course I had to offer several warnings about: resisting the urge to raise the seat position to gaze at the amazing reflections in the hood, which can result in an accident; watching for pedestrians who get distracted by the car and stop and stare; and just being careful in general since folks can get blinded when the sun reflects off of it. I just want her to be safe. She of course mentioned that the car could be cleaner so she will just take it through one of those car washes with lots of spinning brushes. Yes, she won that round. So of course that led into the you dont take care of my car argument. But she uses the brushless wash so I think we have an agreement: I do the car if she stops taking it through the brushless. Her car is worth twice mine so I really need to take care of it. Today will do some claying and sealing. Im actually looking forward to it. A day off in peace detailing a car! What it really needs is some polishing, but I will hire one of the local detailers for that... one of you nice guys that hang out on autogeek. Ive never polished paint and dont have the time anyway with work and all.

So do you guys take care of the wife/gf car like yours and do they respect your clean car obsession?

I can honestly say I don't. And she and I have had a similar conversation about that. She says, jokingly, "my car gets kicked to the curb." And it literally does. I park her car in the street when I wash/detail mine. I plan on detailing her car, now that I have some more products, but not as in depth as I did mine. Her car is a lease and after its over she's giving it back. Her paint is in great shape right now. She has a 2010 Lexus RX 450 (silver color-don't know what its called exactly). Its absolutely beautiful. I just detailed the inside of her car...it took about 4 hours to do. But to make it short...no...I don't detail hers like I do mine. Luckily she's not a member of this forum LOL!

I'm lucky, my wife has a white Explorer, so it's pretty easy to keep swirl free. I think I've done a full detail once or twice in the last 5 years, but otherwise I justr wash and wax is every few weeks.

Alex, that might be a good project, if you want to bring it over when you come to visit!

I may do just that! That'd be awesome. I have two cars to do, one this weekend and one next. After that we're on a cruise for a week. When I get back I'll hit you up.

The wife's car is black... ugh. It has swirl marks and lots of rock chips and dings. When she stops working, I'm going to have all the dings fixed and have it polished... but that won't be for a few years. I was actually looking at your page yesterday for an idea of prices since you are in my area. I saw your correction of that S430. I'm going to see how the finish looks today when I clay and seal it. If it's really bad, I might have to get in touch with you! You did a great job on that car.

i usually clean my vehicles every 3 weeks or so.

my wife... well, i clean the interior 2 or 3 times a year and will wash and wax it at the same time.

she actually made note that at one point another car she had went for 2 years without being washed.

If left to his own devices, my husband would never wash his truck, let alone wax it. Or throw out the half-empty water bottles that accumulate in the passenger's footwell for that matter... I usually wash his truck at the same time I wash my other cars, and try to do a thorough in/out detailing if we are going on a road trip together somewhere, lol. It all works out, he fixes them when they break ;)

I dont have a partner.

But I get what you mean with my family members. I do my car all the time but never my families. I last washed my moms car about 6 months ago. She gets hers washed at the oil change place, and they do a piss poor job at that. My brother does the same oil change wash.

I find it hard to care about their cars when they dont themselves. I desperately want to polish my moms outback because that blue would look amazing. But whats the point when she lets the sprinklers hit it everytime we water the lawn. Her car is literally covered in water spots, and they sit there for awhile so they more than likely are etched in.

My wife's Ecape has more coats of wax and sealant than my Frontier plus I plan on doing a full clay, polish and seal before winter. Right now I'm on the shelf after shoulder surgery yesterday so it will be a while. I pretty much had to have a rebuild done on the shoulder, luckily I will still get paid by the company I work for while I'm mending (6 months).

My wife simply does not understand my desire to keep the cars clean. However since we switch cars quite often, i clean both cars pretty often. I do the interior of the van( wife's main drive) at least once every two weeks, which includes full vacuum and shampoo of the interior due to 3 kids under 6 who reside in the van. I detail and polish my car at least one every three weeks. My wife does not understand my obsession, and yes we have discussions about this everytime i need to clean the cars

Sorry to hear about that. Get well soon and try to take it easy with the pain meds especially oxys. Those damn things are so addictive.

Thank you, I hate the oxy and only take it if my shoulder feels like it's going to explode.

Sounds like a perfect marriage! Sorry for being sexist! I never considered that a wife might be in such a situation.

I ALWAYS do her car first. I may be old but I'm not stupid!

Ah, you're a wise man! :xyxthumbs:

I actually did her SUV 1st, so I could get all the necessary chemicals and stufl. No complains about the expenses at all ;)
Now she loves her truck nice and shiny, so I call that a win -win :D

I do a walk around of the wife's car every morning before I leave for work to check for bird bombs. She thinks I am nuts.... But I do try and wash her car every other week, at least in the summer. My car gets washed on the opposite weekends from hers. i clean her interior about once a week since she has our son in her car way more, so it gets a little messy (she is messy also too though...). I figure if I (we) are laying out the cash for the car every month, I'm going to keep it clean when time allows. I got some 845 last order to help me get through the winter easier this year.

Rick, you and I "are" on the same page!

Right on! My fiance didn't want me to touch her last car, it was a piece of junk anyway. Since we upgraded her to a 07 Fusion I've done my thing and she can't get enough of people thinking she bought a new car and how it always looks great.

When my wife and I were dating she thought I was crazy for spending as much time on my cars as I did... Her cars were always good cars but bad paint and nasty interior until we bought the Saturn for her about 3 years ago...

Then I did a FULL job on it and since then she has a new appreciation for detailing (it doesn't help that I started a company detailing and that is our primary income source now... lol...) she loves to "help" but gets bored quickly and has tried to learn to use the GG6 but she doesn't like how "she has to keep the pad flat or it starts to bounce and wonder"... I am working on that though...

I do her car when she has time and I have time which is about every 2-3 months...
