After particupating in another AG thread about horizontal lighting,I came across something that Bunky (Al) had psoted:

Thank You Al for laying the ground work for my simple idea! :)

I decided to run up to the local hardware store and pick up some item's to make my own version.

I already had a base I wasn't using that had a perfect (for me) base for me to put together my idea.

With a few band clamps it came together just as I had planned.I also used a 2x4 piece of wood for back support:

The band clamps were trimmed after these photo's were shot, but it show's the idea:

I put the bulbs in and pulled the on/off string to see if it would work:

Hey,I never said it was pretty but for less than a $50 bill,I have exactly what I was looking for on a portable horizontal light source and under a 1/2hr to do so. :props:

I like it! Necessity is the mother of invention. :props:

I made a little wheeled set up before but it ended up being too top heavy. I think I have a few stands like that not being used around here too.

I was thinking about something like this the other day, but I don't know that my HF halogen stand could hold the weight. But, it is worth a shot. Especially since making a setup like this has got to be way cheaper than buying one of the paint and body setups that I have seen; plus one of those with 4 or more bulbs may be over kill for polsihing in a one car garage. Wonder if there is anything available to mount a fluorescent fixture to be used vertical or horizontal?...
Heading to the garage now!:)

Great idea. Always in search of better lighting!!

OMG yes!!!, i have a very similar stand with crappy halogens on it that i never use. Ill be making myself one of these very soon.

I wonder if there is something that can be made with a ball type mount to allow different angles and rotations?

So simple, but oh so effective.

Great job...

I've been contemplating doing the exact same thing but using a 6 bulb T-8 fixture like the ones I installed in my shop.

those 6 bulb units are really nice, but from what i find, theyre like 5x the price of a 2bulb unit.

That's cool! Nice trans am too, I'm surprised at how many people own fbodies on here.

im going to assume hes using t-5's

Ill be making something like this soon, im currently looking into some sort of swivel/rotate/angle small LCD mount that can mount to the pole and hold the light to allow for different angles.

Shawn

Joe Edelman has it set up pretty well.

You can skip through some of the modeling stuff and he shows all of the parts.

Here's a stand that I found last night at the big box. The light fixture should mount right to the flat part and allow for plenty of light angle and height adjustment.

Now that's what I call some good ole fashioned iniquity!! :dblthumb2:
