hello geeks!, well earlier today while washing my celica i noticed some orange specks on my rear bumper, looked closer sure enough was iron from somewhere... so i decided, minds well do an iron-x review! this review will be pretty short as its pretty self explanatory.

Pros: Removing iron without removing wax, Removing iron, not harmful to many surfaces, Ph neutral, ease of use, visible indicator that it is working.

Cons: Smell, however i cant say that it would prevent me from using it because the chemical used makes up the smell hard to remove a certain chemicals smell so if it had no smell i doubt it would work as good or work good and have a visible indicator.

Neutral: No indicator for dark vehicles, Price could be a tad lower.

Method Used: Washed car with Duragloss #901 and dried all but the rear of the car. then i sprayed sparingly(to conserve product) but enough to get even coverage. Then i let it sit for about 15 minutes. washed rear of car again with DG901 and rinsed until water ran clear.

Final Thought: All I can say is wow does this stuff work!, especially with these iron deposits starting to rust already. As soon as I sprayed the Iron-X on the bumper it started bleeding! best of all, all the iron was removed!! Whoo Hoo!. This is the second time using Iron-X on the rear of my car, first time was to remove some stuck on iron that I could not remove, and then these random spots got deposited on the surface.

Now onto the pictures (note the second picture I heavily edited to make the iron more visible on screen, and that is not paint transfer on my bumper...it needs to be repainted from previous owner)

Nice review but I promise it removes wax. Sealants not so much but wax...

was still beading just as well as it did before i applied it, i use collinite 845 and spray wax with every wash which is atleast once a week, and ocw was applied after anyways, but i highly doubt the IX removed 845 lol.

The iron particles would've been under the layer of 845. To remove the iron, it would have to remove the 845. Make sense?

.this came on recent, most likely from me removing metal from my hatch because it had a rust hole, and i did not wash the car after so it probably just sat there and dew made it start to bond and rust, i did not even try clay, i iron-x'ed it about 3 weeks ago and was clear. regardless it dont matter as i use OCW after every wash....and it was still beading anyways.IX is ph neutral so i don't think it would strip the wax even if it did not react and it does not have anything in it that would remove wax.

According to the manufacturer, it will strip wax to some extent but not sealant. At any rate if it didn't strip the wax then it also didn't remove any iron that would be imbedded in the paint. To each his own...

you do realize 845 is stronger then most sealants right? and it obviously removed the iron, i doubt the iron was embedded it was more like stuck ontop of the paint as i explained. just never mind...ill email avi to prove my point.

Hi
im not familiar with 845 , normally IronX will not affect sealants or synthetics base products ,only very oily(naphtha) base waxes it will, most likely the irons were on top of your wax or 845, if its bead nicely it didnt affect your protection. if the surface is visually clean and smooth to touch it removed the irons.
hope this help.

Very nice write up. Thanks for posting this.

Most excellent review Matt!! I enjoyed it thoroughly. My thought is iron particles are much bigger than wax and the wax is adhered to the paint around the particle so the IX is able to remove the particles because they protrude beyond the paint and waxed surface.

Thanks again for the great review :props:

Matt,

Nice review and I have to agree Iron-X really works and I was pleasantly surprised to see just how effective it is. I saw pretty much the same reaction on my paint but when I applied it to my wheels I was like WOW!! :props:

thanks for the positive input guys!. and thanks for clarification avi.

Hi, I enjoyed this review too. Are we saying that claying has no impact on iron particles? I am considering getting this product, since the Pittsburgh area has quite a few railroad lines and industrial factories.

unless i missed something that bumper needs a lot more help than iron particle removal

Oh no! claying definitely has an impact and shaves iron particles flush with the paint if I understand correclty but can leave some amount embedded in the paint.

This was my experience with one of my vehicles. I initially clayed the car trying to remove some of the rail dust. It removed the top layer of the particles, but it left some material in the paint.

I ended up ordering Iron X - it really does work!

I clayed the vehicle after using Iron X and the paint was as smooth as glass. The paint was fairly smooth after the Iron X treatment but claying tookit to the next level. Previously, it felt like sandpaper.

Polished with Griot's DA using a white pad and M205 and topped with S100.

Sorry for the cell phone pics - it's all I had at the time.

to spoiledman: I told you my particles were on top of the wax if you read my thread and not skimmed through it, that's what I was trying to get through to you. For the third time, most likely this came from grinding out a rust hole as it was only on one side of the bumper that heavy which is the side i worked on the hole at.

sir, I know what my car needs this was a review of the product, not a thread for someone to tell ME what needs to be done to MY car. I know what needs to be done. You don't complain about the look of someones test panel do you?. It served the purpose of this review, as I said it was from a previous accident caused by previous owner, if your not going to put any POSITIVE input please step away from the keyboard and do not post, I don't need anyone to tell me what needs to be done, if you clearly read my OP I stated it needs to be repainted but serves the purpose of this review. The front end is most important to me at this time. The rear bumper will be dealt with after I paint the front end. So please if you have nothing positive to say don't post. this car is a rolling project and my only car. i knew what needed to be done before i bought it and for the price i paid with the miles it has was worth it.
