My brother in law was getting ready to trade this in on his wife's new Explorer. I have a daughter that will be getting her license in November. I would have preferred a Front wheel drive car, but, I knew the history of this car and it was a good one. No mechanical problems. Washed and waxed occasionally. As you will see, not babied and never polished. It had never been clayed either. I had to throw the clay away.

I was actually looking forward to getting it, because I wanted to learn to use a rotary and this would be my learning vehicle.

Well, I am waiting until late summer or fall to buy the rotary. After getting the car a couple weeks ago, I finally got a chance to correct it.

Process:
Wash - Griots Garage Wash
Clay - Griots Paint Cleaning Clay
Compound - Meguiars 5 in MF cutting pads with D300 on Griots 6in polisher and 3 in pads with D300 on my old PC 7424.

Finishing polish - D301 on same machines with finishing pads.

Trim - Cleaned with Griots Interior Cleaner and dressed with Poor Boys World Trim Restorer

Tires - cleaned with Griots Rubber Cleaner and dressed with Griots Vinyl and Rubber Dressing.

Interior, Wheels and Engine will be "soon" projects.

Some befores:

Notice the fingernail marks.

Trunk Lid. Must have been wiped while really gritty or something. A ton of linear swirls and rids.

50:50 Driver's Door. This is only with D300 compounding stage.

50:50 Hood. You can really see how hazy the finish was here. This was my test spot.

Last 50/50 was a great shot. Got any pics of finished car?

Now the finished Product:

Drivers Door: That is not a scratch next to my swirl finder. It is a reflection of the light in the garage.

Conclusion. Love the DA MF System for quick, easy, make it look great corrections. There are still some RIDS that need some spot polishing. I think I will save those for the Rotary.

Your daughter is very lucky to have a father who can detail her car. The car came out great by the way.

wow looks great. and u did this with the megs MF system? (from what i gathered from the post)

Thanks. She didnt really seem too impressed. Unfortunately she is the least into cars. Her younger sister and brother fight over who gets my white one when I die. She doesnt really care. She will when all the High School Boys start paying attention to her when she drives it.

Nice :dblthumb2: You like Mustangs?!?!?! LOL - good job bro :)
It is my 4th one spanning over the last 29 years. Will prob own a few more in my life.

Yes. I really like this system. I experimented with some spot polishing with several different things including the DA MF 3 in cutting pad with high pressure. I delaminated it quickly. Not designed for high pressure on the GG polisherrr.

Also used some XMT #4 on orange and yellow. also some M105 on MF and foam pads. Really needs a rotary for these deep RIDS. Maybe even wetsanding.

Ugh, that is disappointing. Hopefully she will learn to appreciate her amazing finish when she starts driving/taking care of it. That thing looks flawless now other than the dent! Nice work.

 Job well done. Can never go wrong w/ a Mustang.

Mustang's are legendary and this one exemplifies it! The before and after photos show that both skill, product selection, and allot of hard work can take something pretty tired and turn it into a real gem!

Awesome work! :props:

My all time favorite Mustang:

1967 Shelby Mustang GT350...

Very well done! It looks much better and the paint has good clarity too!

Nice work! If you want to save yourself the headache of your children fighting over the shelby, I would be more than happy to take it off their hands :props:

Thanks for the compliments everyone.

BobbyG - I also love those. Although I would probably give a slight edge to the 65-66. I just found a '68 GT500 frame off restoration for a friend of mine about a year and a half ago. He bought it, then the value dropped about 35%. Hopefully it will recover over the next few years.

I am not in a position to buy something like that now. 3 kids in college over the next 2-13 years. Hopefully after that I can buy my classic.

I here ya on the cash situation!

The 1965 and 1966 are another great design. I remember when my Dad bought a new 1966 Mustang and all I could do was drool over it. I remember walking around TASCA Ford in East Providence RI and they had a whole line of 1966 Mustang GT350 sitting there with the glass insert in place of the louvers. All brand new and just waiting for someone to buy one. My favorite ones were the black ones with the gold stripping.....

Man, those were the days!!

Great color, nice work. I just used the MF cuttin discs and D300 today and I was impressed.
