i normally used my rotary to do the correction and PC to apply sealant.

but today I used the PC to clean floor mat with the AG Blue Soft brush and it was working great the whole time. (i used mostly speed 4, and a little bit time with speed 5)

I am done and after all the washing and drying, I tried to use the PC to apply sealant.

Weird thing happened. the pad can only rotate but do not have the vibrating action. it works just like a rotary the noise is alot louder.
if I loosen up the backing plate a little bit the noise is even louder.

can anyone chimp some info?
is it time to get a new one? (i only used it for like less than applying wax for less than 50 cars)

thanks guys.

I will try to get a video/audio tmr morning when i have access to it again.

i have done about 5 cars full correction like 4 stage polishing
heavy polish
light polish
glaze
wax
and never experienced any of what u have

all i know is the PC has the free spindle feature which the circular rotation happen when the ocilating happens

so the only way to make it almost rotates like rotary is not putting any pressure at all

and alot of people had the PC for over 10 years with no problems

and if u are already experiened with rotary u can even apply wax using it
no problem

Perhaps the bearing seized in the free rotating spindle assembly..?? Can you freely spin the backing plate without the spindle assembly turning as well when the power is turned off?

thanks everyone. problem solved. the washer on the backing plate is missing. i used something to substitute it and it works just fine. i use it for waxing only so it should be ok for a while.

Not to take away any business from AG...if you do loose 'the' washer, and need one NOW...take run to your local hardware store and look in the plumbing section. You should be able to fine one that is just about an exact replica.

The Compression Washer

I wrote an article about Compression Washers explaining how important it is to the function of DA Polishers here,

Don't use your polisher without it!

There were some further follow-up questions about compression washers so here's some more pictures and information to make sure everyone's clear on what the compression washer is, where it goes and why it's important.

The common Compression Washer used with popular DA Polishers is about the size of a U.S. Quarter.

One side of the compression washer is going to seat against the free floating spindle seen in the picture below.

The other side of the compression washer will seat against the small steel attachment plate on the back of a backing plate.

It would look like this without the backing plate in the way...

Normally you would slide the compression washer over the threaded portion of the backing plate and then align this to the spindle on the polisher and tighten together.

Here you can see where after tightening the compression washer has an imprint from where it was crushed during tightening.

Do's and Don'ts
  • Do use a compression washer between the backing plate and the spindle.
  • Don't use a steel washer if you lose the compression washer.
