It has taken me over a week to post this...

My buddy of 20 years passed away last week.
Yes, he was 20 years old.
He's been with me through a lot in my life. It is so strange not having him around now.
He was the best little guy ever. Never will be able to be replaced in my heart.
I am still trying to wrap my head around his absence.

Losing a pet is just awful. But the good times outweigh the hard times. RIP

Sorry to hear this Monica

So sorry.

I'm 68 years old and I have had pets my entire life. As such I've been through this many times. One of my current dogs is 15+ years old and her time is coming. It is never easy.

It definitely doesn’t.

Thx everyone for the kind words.

Sorry for your loss, Monica. I sure know how you feel. :(

But, I know that you and your husband are great people who have huge hearts when it comes to animals, and I am sure Raider had the best life a cat could ever have.

Thx again everyone.
We all seem to be a community that has plenty of fur kids… I knew you’d all understand.

Absolutely. :)

One day in the future, when you feel up for it, I think we'd all love to hear the story of Raider's life. :xyxthumbs:

A quick story…

I remember the day I met him.
A coworker had told me about a kitten he had that was, “becoming aggressive to the other cats in the house” and that he may have to re-home him.
At the time I was thinking of getting a cat so I told him I’d take him. He told me to come by and take a look.

When I came to his house he told me he had just given the kitty catnip so he was pretty “wired”.
Wired was an understatement. My coworker led me to the basement where he was and opened the door…
This little kitty was basically bouncing off the walls. He was crazy!

I just turned to my coworker and told him I’d take him home.
At the time his name was Shadow. For me that just didn’t work. What was a good name for a little crazy black cat?
And then I thought of the Oakland Raiders… just made sense :D

monica, i'm sorry to hear about your loss. he definitely lived a long life and you gave him the best any pet could ever ask for. keep that in your memories as i'm sure he did as well.

That is the worse feeling ever, very sorry for your loss.

I hope you don't mind me sharing a great pet name story too... One of my two current dogs is named Pete.

The day my daughter and I got him from a shelter we were driving home. My daughter was driving and the puppy was in my lap. On the ride home we were discussing names and settled on Pete. My daughter's name is Hanna. You may be asking, what does "Hanna's" name have to do with this? Read on.

Once home, I was looking at all of the paperwork. To my surprise, the name of the attending vet that examined the puppy and signed-off on the documentation was "Peter Hannah".

How coincidental is that?

My daughter "Hanna" and I had settled on the name "Pete" for the puppy and we later found out the attending vet's name was "Peter Hannah".

I’m sorry for your loss.I feel for you:3
At least you know you did a heck of a job making him last that 20yr. milestone which is known amongst us cat people as that rare air where only the best taken care of cats get to make it to. You gave that cat a damn good life!!!

Gave love, and got love in return. That’s the most each could ask for and you both deserved it.Not all kitties have it so good.
