I have had CQF on my car for about a month and a half now, and have washed it about a half dozen times. I want to start with the pros that I have noticed...

PROS

  • Sheets water like the water is afraid to touch the car
  • Sort of self cleans, the pollen doesn't make my black car yellow sort of leaves a spotting effect that comes off easy
  • Stays pretty glossy

  • Makes washing easier because nothing will stick to it and if it does it just comes right off with no trouble at all, even a glob of grease that came off the road
CONS

  • Claims to be anti-scratch but this is my biggest gripe! I use perfect wash methods with a microfiber mitt and the 2 bucket method and the car still gets lots of "spiderweb" lines on it regardless of how sudsy or soapy the surface is
  • The coating scratches very easily, but can be polished out without removing the coating (so I tried)

  • Scratches are in the coating not the clear coat, but its very hard to buff them out

So thats my take so far, maybe having a black car is just a PITA regardless of whats on the surface protecting, but I thought the "anti-scratch" effect would have been alot better. I can say thats the only thing that I am not happy with. Once I figure out how to polish out the swirling/scratching/rub marks I will be happy as a clam, until them I am only satisfied to know I have a coating that will protect the paint and clear coat from any environmental damage.

Thanks for your thoughts on this matter. I have CQUK to put on my wifes wagon and I am concerned about the scratching effect as well.

On a side note, sorry it has taken me so long Steve but I had other things come up. I will get to it as soon as I can.

I'll never buy a black car again. Everybody should do it once in their life however. When polished up its great. 10 seconds later it's dusty.

Just polish the swirls with M205 and a soft pad maybe try black then go to white if it doesn't work. Do a test area first.

May I suggest 2 things.
1). Use ONR or an equivalent.
2). When you dry, use the sheeting method when you rinse followed by a leaf blower to touch it the least amount possible. Lastly, get yourself some Ultima UWW and use it as a drying aid. It's killer lubricity should help you.

Hi,
thank you for the feedback.
few questions...
what car is it?
how many layers was it coated?
who did you the application and was the coat baked on surface?
we do say it helps preventing more swirls on the surface but it vary allot on the substrate it was coated.for soft paint and black i would suggest more than 2 layers .

If I polish the coating won't it be removed somewhat? And should I follow up with Reload to rejuvinate the coating?

I'm almost positive that CarPro states not to polish because that will in fact remove the coating.

Well this sucks. I was planning on getting a CQuarz Finest coating because of the anti-scratch/swirl claims.

I think it definitely helps better than anything I tried, but it didnt blow me away like I thought it would

Just gotta keep them swirl and scratch free aka my second non paying job!

Guys, both Car Pro and Optimum coatings do improve hardness on the paint, I have coated many cars already with opticoat, and there's a black one that I see all days (it's not mine). Do they still get swirls and stuff ? Yepz! But much less than normal.

Another thing you need to realize, is that these coatings do take a long time to FULLY cure... I don't know about Finest (Avi can give this info), but Optimum Opticoat 2.0 takes around 30 to 90 days depending on weather exposition to fully harden..... In the first month o so, it's really soft..... I don't think Cquartz versions or any other coat is much different than that....

What I do recommend is all care in the world in the first 1 or 2 months when washing... try to be as gentle as possible.... after this harden period, all extra care will be well paid off for 2 years or more...
