Last weekend I got together with Meghan so I could try out the wash tools I hadn't gotten my hands on yet.

My wash mitt of choice lately has been the Cobra Blue Micro-Chenille and it has always worked great for me. I love the fact that I can put my hand in it and that it's durable and holds a ton of water and suds. I really wanted to test out some of the other wash mitts and tools we carry here at Autogeek to see what they're all about.

This is what I tried out..

-5 Gallon Wash Bucket w/Grit Guard
-Wolfgang Auto Bathe
-Wolfgang Instant Detail Spritz
-Montana Original Tri-Angle Boar’s Hair Wash Brush
-Pinnacle Safe Scrub Bug and Tar Pad
-Pinnacle Microfiber Detailing Mitt
-Large Natural Sea Sponge
-The Bone by Cobra
-Cobra Guzzler Waffle Weave Drying Towel 20"x40"

First I started by pouring about 2 ounces of Wolfgang Auto Bathe in the 5-gallon wash bucket. Fill the bucket with a strong jet of water to activate the suds.

To get things started, I decided to try out the Montana Original Tri-Angle Boar’s Hair Wash Brush. This comes in handy for doing the roof of taller vehicles.

Here is a tip: Before you start using the Boar's Hair Brush, let it soak in the car wash solution for 3 to 5 minutes. Doing so softens the bristles so there is no chance of scratching your vehicle.

Now it was time to get cleaning! For those of you that aren't super tall (such as myself) ,the extension handle on the Boar's Hair Brush is perfect. It allows you to extend your reach by several feet and provides great control of the brush.

I was really surprised at how easily the Boar's Hair Brush glides across the surface of the vehicle. This brush would be perfect for those of you that have large cars or trucks.

Next up is the Pinnacle Safe Scrub Bug and Tar Pad. Just like the Boar's Hair Brush, you want to let this soak in the wash solution for a couple minutes to soften it up.

After a few minutes had gone by, the Safe Scrub really softened up. But one thing to remember about the Safe Scrub is to soak it often and keep it full of suds to maintain lubricity while washing away those pesky bugs.

The Safe Scrub works great and it's very easy to hold. It was also very effective at getting off all those nasty bugs. This is definitely going to be my new go to product for removing bugs and tar off my car.

One thing I've always had my eye on is the Large Natural Sea Sponge. How cool is it that you can wash your car from something that came from the bottom of the ocean?! I've been wanting to try one out for a while now because I've heard they hold a massive amount of water.

IMG_06121.JPG

The Sea Sponge feels great in your hands. Its flexible and you can grab it almost anywhere without worrying about losing your grip.

IMG_0614.JPG

It also works great for wheels because even though it holds a ton of water and suds, you can still squeeze it down to a fraction of its normal size. Doing this is great for getting in tight spaces and in between spokes.

Next on the list was the Bone by Cobra. The Bone is great because of its shape and large size. Dunk it in your wash bucket, squeeze it, and let go! You will be amazed at how heavy it gets once it has absorbed a ton of water and suds. It comes in handy for doing larger panels so you don't have to constantly keep dunking it back in to your wash bucket to get more suds.

Something I learned about the Pinnacle Microfiber Detailing Mitt is that it's perfect for getting in tight spaces where only your hand can fit. A larger wheel brush doesn't always fit in the wheel wells of vehicles that don't have as much ground clearance as others. That's where the Detailing Mitt really outperforms.

The Pinnacle Microfiber Detailing Mitt is large enough for big hands and it's super soft inside.

Once we were finished washing the car using various tools and wash mitts, it was time to dry! For this step I used the Cobra Guzzler Waffle Weave Drying Towel 20"x40" along with a bottle of Wolfgang Instant Detail Spritz. I used the Wolfgang Instant Detail Spritz as my drying aid. Not only does it make the vehicle easier to dry, but it also adds some gloss and protection.

Each wash mitt and tool works great. They all have their own unique purpose and it's just a personal preference which one you like the best. Of all the ones I tried so far, I think I'd have to say the Large Natural Sea Sponge was my favorite. :dblthumb2:

I am going get one more loving on the Sea Sponge! We had a great time, tried out a lot of different washing products, always fun to play with all the detailing products!

I think I have to get one of those detailing mits out....looks like it can be handy in some instances! Nick, you have to try a wookie out next!!

Nice write up! I notice you are washing Meghan's car...this because your the new guy and it's your initiation?

Those detailing mitts look handy. I might have to pick some up.

Exactly what I was thinking!!! Meghan's using the new guy to wash her car :D :D :D

Kidding aside, nice review again Nick!!! I like detailed reviews like these because they show me how each product works and your opinion helps me decide whether they're good or not. Thanks for taking time to do this. I envy you that you get to play with different products.

Looks like alot of fun!! The brush didn't cause any marring or scratching? If so I'm picking one up asap for the bigger vehicles that come my way!

Nick, I purchased the cobra bone a while ago and found it really had to use on vertical panels or curved surfaces. I much prefer the blue mitt - what was your comparison between the bone and the mitt? Did you also have problems with vertical or non-flat surfaces?

I liked the mitt because it is very easy to conform to any surface and control with your hand inside of it.

Nick,
I think Megan tricked you into washing her car!

Why isn't Ivan (I think that's his name) on your wash bucket? Nice write up.

I've been thinking about picking one up just for my truck. But I can't justify spending that much on a brush. I just bust out the step ladder!

I may have to get one of those Pinnacle Microfiber Detailing Mitt's because,I too have those tight spaces in the wheel well that are hard to reach:

Thanks Nick ,Great reveiw :xyxthumbs:

plz take off the watch and ring... making me nervous!!!! lol 8)

I've always been skeptical of the natural sponge, how do you know all the sand is out of it? Are these grown (farmed) off the sea floor?

I love the Safe scrub brush, they're great.

Yeah, nice Tag you got there Meghan. Great write up Nick.

I'm always so jealous when I see those pics with the palm trees. It's 15 degrees in Boston which is a huge improvement from Monday's -4. You guys got an extra couch down there that I can crash on til April? Or maybe one of those nice leather recliners in Max's office???

I'd also love to see an ONR wash media review. I know there's a been a ton but I'm always curious what people use and their different methods are with that stuff.
