First, let me start off by saying that I am a novice detailer/ car enthusiast. I have no experience using any of these products, unless noted, and have never used a machine polisher of any kind before. This is also my first product review, so bear with me.

I am not in any way affiliated with Nanoskin or any detailer/ distributor.

I will be using the following products in this review:
-Nanoskin Microbuff 5" Starter kit.
-Nanoskin Green Apple Bubble Bath
-Lake Country 5" DA backing plate
-Porter Cable 7424XP Dual Action Polisher (PC7424XP)
-Grit Guard grit guards
-Meguires Water Magnet drying towel
-AutoZone micro fiber wash mitt (previously used)

I will start with packaging.

The Microbuff Starter kit comes in a box(oooooohhhh ahhhhhh), inside the box are 3 small spray bottles (Glide, Pad cleaning agent, and Pad rejuvenator), 3 large bottles of compound( speed cut, nano cut, and formula 67), an auto scrub sponge, a pad cleaning brush, a nice soft apron, a how to DVD, and the 4 pads.

The pads are packaged in sealed bags, back to back with a cardboard on the outside of the plastic.

-Next was first impressions upon using breaking the seals on each bottle.

The polishes/ compounds each have their own scent related to the color. (Speed cut/ green/ apple somewhat) (Formula 67/yellow/ banana) (nano cut/ pink/ bubble gum) the contents of the spray bottles are odorless.

I have used the system 3 times since I purchased it and here are my first impressions.

The polish goes a long way, I use about a dime size squirt per panel, maybe 2 on the roof or hood.

You must either brush out or blow out the pads after every panel. I didn’t on the first car I used them on (my own) and I was very upset about how much they gummed up and how hot they got after a few panels. If you don’t have an air compressor, I would consider it a MUST for you to get the most of your pads per vehicle.

The cut with the black/ cutting pad is GREAT. I had some very major scratches in the paint on my hood scoop, and using the black pad/ speed cut, the scratches are almost gone, some are all the way into the paint, so I didn’t expect them to be gone. The finish after that combo was slightly hazy, but still shiny.

The yellow/ polishing pads were great with the Formula 67/ speed cut to remove the swirls out of my Subaru’s paint/ and on my buddy’s 85 AMC Eagle. They came out with a very high gloss, and ready for sealant.

I think my favorite thing about the compounds is the lack of dust. At no time during any of the detailing was there any dust on the car from the polish.

Bad points- really only one that I’ve found. The manufacturer claims that you can machine wash the pad discs ( which are connected via hook and loop to the cushion part of the pad), but after 3 washes, and 1 trip through the dryer on air dry, all of my pads have curled up into a tube( still usable though) and on 1 of my black pads, the back site of the pad disc where the soft Velcro has come apart, and is no longer sticking to the hook side on the pad cushion.

Overall, I really like the whole system, but my next purchase will be a set of foam pads and compounds/ polishes, and not more of the micro buff system. I hope this review is useful to everyone here. If you have any questions,, just ask. I will answer as best as I can.

Thanks for a really nice review.
It sounds like I will be getting one of these kits to try out too.

I do find that I no longer throw anything but MF towels into the washer.
All my pads (of any type) get hand washed (usually on a pad washer) and rinsed then squeeze dried and put down flat on a dry towel (covered) until dry. i have been getting a lot more life by being gentle with them.

I won't be trowing my pads in the washer anymore. The pad cleaning agent that comes with the kit, coupled with a brush and air compressor gets them looking like new every time. It will be interesting seeing someone who has experience with other types of pads compare the nanoskin MB system to others. These were my first pads, and first polishes/ compounds.

I was able to get my neighbor to let me do his wife's hood on her Volkswagen Jetta. It had been washed using 1 bucket, a pressure washer, and a BJ's microfiber towel. There were TONS of swirls and I was able to get them out with a black MB pad, and speed cut, then Formula 67. This is after a coating of Nanoskin Hydrophobic Nano paste wax.
