Yesterday while detailing a clients car, I left my shaker bottle with BSN AminoX sports drink inside my car. It was parked on a sunny spot. Coming back to it I found that the drink exploded the cap off and spilled all over the right front seat area. The drink splattered everywhere and some seeped through the front seat and went to the floor area carpet of the back seat. I hit it with Folex but it wasn't coming out at all. At this point I'm thinking a permanent stain. I will attempt steamer and shampoo later today but to see Folex do nothing sucked!

My question is, if permanent is there a recommended carpet dye that I can apply to blend in the color back?

Sounds like a tricky stain though I would try steam and apc, followed by folex with a stiff bristle brush though if that doesn't help try hot water extracting or look into
The carpet cleaner called Resolve there website will point you to one of there cleaners that will hopefully work though just attack that stain bit by bit

Thanks! I'll do the steam, OPC and extractor combo and report back. BSN Nutrition sports drinks are known to explode caps even when shaken vigorously. Most explosive is NO Xplode pre-workout drink. Didn't think sun heat would make it do the same. I got so caught up in the detail and didn't get to drink it.

You might want to go to a carpet cleaning supplier and check out a red dye remover before you do something that sets the stain permanently.

I frequently use "red vanish" from vacaway. And also "revive it oxy spotter" from bonnetpro.
Red vanish will take out anything with red dye #40 in it.
I use these in my detailing business and also my father's carpet cleaning business, which he started in the 80's so we have tried many things.
We usually hit red spots with oxy spotter, many times that will eat the stain away without even touching it (red wine, coffee, blood) .
If that doesn't work we get out red vanish and use that in conjuction with my steamer, hot iron works really well too.

Thanks ducksfan and MDX Detailing. I will try those methods and products. I haven't encountered such stains in any of my interior details. Folex and carpet extractor usually does a great job. Good to know.

Maybe peroxide? I know it will remove blood stains instantly, so maybe it will work on the red drink. Do A small test spot first.

+1 on calling the pros

There should be something like Red #3 listed on the ingredients, indication the type of coloring. This might be helpful to a cleaner supplier in diagnosing what approach will be most effective

Maybe, email Meguiar's Customer Service with the pictures

They have two new fabric cleaners out

Best color & Red #40 it looks like. I ordered the Red Vanish & Oxy Spotter

That new Meguiars Tanin stain remover might be the winning ticket on this one. I hope it comes out!!

I think what you ordered will be a winning pair there, if not I can guarantee you they will come in handy for future problems. I carry both in my truck on every job.

Asked the owner of Vacaway, the company that makes Red Vanish for instructions on how to tackle this stain with his product and here was his reply:

"Just follow the directions on the bottle for red stain removal... you can
use a steamer if you are looking for quick results; however any time you use
heat you risk bleaching. I suggest that you saturate the area with Red
Vanish and then cover it with plastic, such as surround wrap or garbage bag,
and leave for 24 hours. Using time instead of heat greatly reduces the
chance of bleaching. If the stain turns yellow you should be able to
remove it with just about any carpet spotter.

Not all stains are 100% removal; especially if you have used something else
prior to Red Vanish.

Hope this helps,

Steve"

I will report back in how it works out.

Went from this

To this....

And that was after two hours of multiple attempts.

First thoroughly vacuumed then rinsed and extracted to remove all remnants of Folex which I had attempted a few days earlier. Then applied Red Vanish and covered with Saran Wrap for 12hours. After I hit it with my steamer, extracted and tried again. After a spotter and it only faded a little. Worth the try. I had planned to get rid of this 2004 530i sedan for an SUV in a few weeks so I'll go with looking for a gray dye option so I'm not hit on value by this. Lesson learnt...watch out for red#40!!!

I have had luck with Lifter One. It is available OTC at most of the chain automotive parts stores. Indeed, I have even had it work on pen ink, as long as you do not wait too long.
