Hi Everyone,

I am a newbie for Detailing, For the first time I would like to detail my 6 months old VW Black car and I need help in deciding the products. I do not have a DA Polisher and not planning to buy one now. I do have minor swrils on my car. I request everyone to assist me in picking up the right products.

The products I searched so far:

1. Claybar (Wolfgang Elastic Poly Clay or Sonus SFX Ultra-Fine Detailing Clay or Meguiars Smooth Surface Clay Kit)

2. IronX

3. Klasse AIO & Klasse SG or AG German Deep Gloss Combo (Menzerna Nano Polish PO 106 FA & Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0)

Thanks in Advance,

rashv

This link will take you to some fabulous articles written by Mike Phillips.

These are the basic steps in order are:

  • Wash
  • Clay
  • Paint Correction & Polish
  • Seal
  • Wax

Since you're working by hand do one panel at a time and develop a plan that achieves your desired goals. Polishing by hand is a lot of work and is time consuming but decent results can be achieved.

Welcome! You can't go wrong with Mike's advice. BobbyG and others are right up there too.

Thanks BobbyG for the links, this is allot of information. After going through all the links. I am planning to follow the below procedure:

  • Wash
  • Clay
  • Meguiar Ultimate Compound
  • Meguiar SwrilX
  • Selant
  • Wax
My question is, I already have Meg Ultimate Polish, can I use it after SwrilX or I will use Menzerna Nano Polish PO 106 FA or I will go to Selant after swrilX.

Regards,

rashv

Hi Rashv,

If memory serves me correctly Meguiar's Swirl-X is more of a cleaner-glaze and contains no abrasives at all. I suspect it contains fillers commonly found in glazes and hides rather than corrects.

Substitute the Meguiar's Ultimate Polish for the Swirl-X and you'll be much more satisfied..

What sealant and wax are you planning on using?

Hi BobbyG,

Thanks for the quick reply. Sealant I am planning for 3M Performance Finish or Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0. Wax, I already have Collinite 915.

This is a bit late, but I hope you won't mind if I correct this - actually, Swirl-X is a light to medium SMAT polish, more aggressive than M205, according to this post: http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...s-order-smat-products-might-surprise-you.html

when working by hand, those blue/red/white pads help, since one side is a polishing pad and has a little bit of bite to it. Once you've gotten the swirls out of the panel you can flip it and go to the LSP.

Ultimate Compound breaks works pretty well by hand - it's my go-to product when spot fixing.

For LSP, I'd go WG DGPS over anything 3M.
