Need feedback: Grit Guard Extension for Universal Pad Washer

To those of you that have used the Universal Pad Washer:

1. Did you feel like the Grit Guard Extension made a difference when cleaning the center of the pad? Or did it work the same with or without the extension?
2. Are there any changes you would make to the design that would make it more effective at cleaning?
3. Was the extension helpful for drying pads?
