Just got my groits garage 6" polisher and im going to do a friends heavly neglected 2000 pontiac grand prix. Im looking to try not to clay the car if I can cause im just experimenting. Thanks.:dblthumb2:

Well, heavily neglected + AIO - clay isn't going to give you very good results. You should either do it right or not do it at all in my book.

If you want a good AIO you can use PoliSeal. It gives good correction and leaves protection behind. However, depending on how bad the paint is to begin with, it might not make it that much better.

+1 on the Polyseal, it's the easiest stuff I've ever used and practically disappears when you polish it in. If it's not strong enough to get the job done, Meguiars D151 has more cut and gives good results.

After seeing the Mike helped out a buddy with his Highlander using XMT 360 and cutting pads I wanted to see the results for myself as I have been using 360 mostly with CCS green polish/light cut pads. I used a yellow cutting pad and 360 on an inside portion of my tailgate that has never been polished and is orange peel city. Before I could barely see the overhead lighting in the reflection. After two passes I could start seeing the definition of the light above. 360 has a great sealant in it as I polished the single stage paint on my central A/C unit about a year ago and it still beads water off and has not oxidized any like it was. If you really want to be able to clean, do some significant correction, and have a long term sealant left behind xmt360 is a great product to try IME. Just make sure you have a good pad cleaner/solution on standby.

Agreed 100%! Claying is a must in this scenario. It does not add a lot of time either.

As for AIO, I use XMT360 and like it a lot. Good correction, cleaning, and a good sealant.

Like others said always clay. It takes time, but it leaves the surface glass smooth. If you polish before claying it will leave maring and pigtails everywhere and it will look worst than before.

AIO work well on daily drivers and truly cars with soft paint. I did a 94 mercedes with xmt360 and it looked almost perfect. I have worked on a 2000 pontiac grand prix before and it didn't have soft paint. I had to use megs ultimate compound and m205. Other cars I've tried xmt360 and barely noticed a difference, probably because of the paint hardness.

If you look on the cut chart xmt360 is a 2/10. m205 is a 4. You really won't get great results with xmt360, but it will make the car look better in a short amount of time. xmt360 protect last amount a month, maybe 2 if its garaged. Atleast thats my experience. Some daily drivers I do xmt 360 and put a filler wax on top of it(takes another 15mins to add a layer of wax and buff off).

Mike's given a great list to choose from but you indicate a heavily neglected finish that my need some additional work to get to looking its best.

Work one panel at a time and do add a good wash and claying. For clays you might want to look at a medium or an aggressive and see how it performs then switch to a wool pad and a rotary if you're comfortable with it, if not then a yellow foam may be your best bet.

Some closeup shots posted here would help tremendously so if you have them post them..
