I got a used dewalt dw849 from ebay today. Trying it out now and notice when you press the switch trigger it sometimes has a hard jerk when trying to up the rpm up slowly. I have the control dial set at 1000. Is this polisher suppose to be able to control the prm at like 300 or 500 by pressing the trigger so much or less pressure? I can press the trigger soft and get maybe 100 rpm but if I press it more there is a jerk and wants to rev up to the 1000 rpm. Is this normal or is it a switch or module or something. Thanks for help

ps. the dewalt was manufactured in 2009

Thats normal. The dewalt has a somewhat sensitive trigger if you are not used to it. Its not like the makita/hitachi that have a smooth starting feature. It does have a variable speed trigger though.

is there a way to test the switch to see if it is malfunctioning?

Not that I really know of. Try pulling in it really slow and feel the the rpms climb. If it doesnt at all maybe its a bad trigger.

it does climb when to press softly to about 200rpm..but press more and it will go straight to the setting on the dial set...like 1000.

The type 2 had a problem with the trigger and was discontinued!
DeWalt has a retrofit, it uses the type 3 trigger. It comes with install instructions that will take care for your problem.

Contact your local Dewalt repair center and they will get you fixed up. It was around 35.00 bucks
