I've started my own detailing business for about 8 months, it is shop based but now i would like to boost my business by taking the initiative to find/get more new customer instead of waiting for them to come to my shop.

My idea is to write a simple and short introduction about my service and then print it out on a hang tag, i will put this printed hang tag on the car(door hangle) which i think will be my potential customer. Did anyone try this method?

The draft message that comes to my mind is:
"Hey there! Just thought that i might be the right person to help you find some love back into your car!"
(Probably add a photo of my recent work at the bottom of the hang tag and then my contact number)

What do you think about this message?
How do i make it looks professional but not too formal/serious at the same time, more importantly not to sound like i'm hard-selling my services?

Hm, I personally wouldn't like a stranger coming around my car and hanging something off my door handle. With the time/effort you put in, you'll get little results (aka paying customers) from it.

You can try to use the "If I hand out 500 tags, at least one customer will book an appointment" but again, I don't think your time/money is worth that

You need to move into digital marketing- a much more effective method to bring in clients month after month. The main thing I would focus in the beginning phases is search engine optimization (SEO)

I would go to your home town newspaper, and see if they can offer you some sort of mass marketing like a bright sticker of your services on the front cover.Ive done that twice with good results.or try a monthly mailing thru a published magazine that is distributed once a month along with other businesses that hit anywhere from 1 thru 6 zip codes in your area.with all the expenses might cost you from 350 to 600 a month.Got to come up with a certain wording like discount or something free to get them to stop by or call.If you can managed to do that for a year along with your selling ability around town I think you will have a good base clientele along with word of mouth from the people you get.
