Hey Guys,
I am a new here and love the forum. i could really use some advise. A friend of my son keeps scratching my cars with his bike handles. I have barred him form coming to my house with his bike, however the damage is done. So i am attaching some pics of the damage, and yes the van is dirty, i will get to that this weekend. I have just bought the PC and pinnacle twins package, as well as a Dr. Colorchip kit for the car. I plan on washing the car then polishing the area ,( do i need to get mothers compound too?) then using the Dr. Colorchip. My question is how long do i wait for the Dr. Colorchip to cure before layering some protectant, and what do you recommend i use to seal.
Thank you for any help you can give...View attachment 8775

If it just a scratch, it could be possible to at least make the scratches look better than they are now. But if you can catch the scratches with your finger nail, wet sanding might me a must. You'll have to wait for some more experienced members on here!

its hard to tell from the pics, but if you do the fingernail test as recomended we could offer some sugestions

Yeah, the darker colored scratches seem like they would wetsand/polish out pretty well. I find that the more "white" a scratch looks, the deeper and harder it is to remove (clear coated paint).

all the scratches are deep enough to catch on my finger nail unfortunately. the pics don't do them justice, i tried polishing them out with auto glym polish by hand. this obviously did not help, so i had to step up to the PC. but i still am not sure how to proceed, that is why i got the dr. colorchip because i am afraid the scratches go through the paint

I got some "scratches" from backing into a shopping cart at walmart ( cart crushed but left its dying scratches behind) and they where BAD as in slight dents in the tailgate. I used a orange pad and XMT360 but tho it helped when I just went up to orange and Ultra Cut from PepBoys it was awesome.

Well at least all you can see now is the dents that you have to catch the light right to see them as the big bad lines 'O' paint are gone.

Thank you Jon.6.7 i will give it a try. i will let you know how it goes

You said you got a pc kit. Use the cutting pad or polishing pad along with some of Meguiars Ultimate compound and see if that can tackle the job.

ok update time... i used meguiars ultimate compound with the orange cutting pad with my pc 7424xp. The scratches are looking better but they are still there. Next i will try ultra cut from pep boys. I will let you know how it goes.

Banning the young lad was probably better than confining him to a wheelchair... :props:

Some look like scratches while others look like material that's laying on top of the paint. Any material that's proud of the surface will clean up nicely.

First determine whether or not Dr Colorchip will help correct the damage. This product should come with instructions for application and finishing. If more is required then I'd shoot them an email posing your questions there, perhaps Autogeek Customer Service and add something to the mix.

Pinnacle Advanced Swirl Remover is a good product. I'd try this with a 5 1/2" Orange flat pad. Work a criss-cross pattern with a watchful eye on your progress. Depending on the depth of the scratch will ultimately determine whether or not it can be completely removed using a polisher.

A scratch tears at the finish leaving sharp edges. Polishing these defects round over these edges changing the way light refracts making them less noticeable.

Treat each scratch differently and approach it with caution working your pad and polish slowly not wanting to breach the clear coat.

Thanks BobbyG
New update... i went to local vendor and picked up some 105. The UC was good but the 105 had a much better result. Unfortunatly the scratches are still there they are just not as noticable. My hope is that i will be able to slowly over the next couple of washes and polishes be able to diminish them. For now the van looks 10x better. I think i may never get rid of them but i can make them hard to see...
I am still keeping the ban in effect for the young boy who caused all the damage though, he is still not allowed near my cars with any type of bike or scooter....

P.S. i appreciate everyone's help with this matter.
P.S.S. if a mrs. Dwengier77 comes here i did not spend $500 trying to repair this, everyone needs to be on the same page on this....

Update...............
Well after spending most of last week getting taking care of these scratches, my wife had an amusing incident happen at work. While she was at work, someone backed up into the van and did a fair amount of damage. Luckily there was a witness so at least we have a police report. TO be Continued.....:cry:
