I am finally getting my dream car. I've always loved vettes, camaros, and mustangs. After reading about the new 2016 Camaro I decided this is the car I have to have. I've had a lot happen over the last several years including a battle with colon cancer. I have been cancer free for over two years now. My family and my family's health is by far the most important thing to me, but this car will be very special to me. It will be DD for the most part, but the car I'm driving now I'm only putting about 10,000 miles per year on it. I've had a black vehicle before and that's pretty much what started me getting into detailing as a hobby. I got a pc and a learned a lot on these forums and trial and error. I will have at least very close to perfect paint starting out so I would like to hear everyone's suggestions on polishes and lsps to leave a jaw dropping dark, deep, wet shine. I will clay and prep the paint for polishing. I was thinking of polishing with ultimate polish and using ultimate wax and then topping with a carnuba. That's just one combo that I've been thinking about. The main reason I like this combo is that both meguires products are good at making the paint look darker(at least that's what I read). What's some combos you all like on black? Thanks for the help!

Check out some of j smooth show and shine threads with black fire polish and black fire lsp

There will be tons of opinions and advice...all of it good. In addition to searching the Show and Shine sub forum, simply searching on "black car" will reveal even more.

The wax/sealant/coating choices are nearly endless, and most products will serve you well. I'd focus more on what other people have said about which products work the best correcting/polishing GM paint. After that it's all just icing on the cake.

Congrats on the car. I had a black SS pull up next to me the other day. Stunning car.

I too have a black Camaro, but mine is a 2013, bought with 25,000 on it, mechanically well cared-for, but cosmetically .....

Anyhow, I used my PC, a Megs cutting pad (the thin maroon ones), Ultimate Compound and Collinite 845 Insulator Wax. Our Camaro's Black is very hard and is tough to mar, so the paint turned out LSP ready after only using the Compound. I then finished w/Collinite on a Megs thin polishing pad (yellow) ... (The polishing pad... for me ... applys the wax, especially Collinite, much more even and thin than a finishing pad. When I was done, I ended up with this:

Glad to hear you are cancer free. My mom is coming up on 2 years as well from colon cancer. You have your priorities in the right place with family first.

Nice pick up. The 6th gen looks great.

The ultimate line is always a good place to start. Topping a sealant like ultimate wax with a carnauba is optional. Ultimate Wax does look good on it's own. If you do decide to top it, Meguiar's #26 looks good over ultimate wax.

Others will chime in and I am sure it will be about something in the 3D line. The blackfire line is another option that looks great on black.

I would recommend first off to make sure the dealer DOES NOT prep the car for you prior to delivery. If you are ordering the car, make sure you make that VERY clear in the process. They can do the PDI, but ask them not to clean, prep, or remove any protective coverings. Thats half the battle right there. Assuming they dont, the car should be virtually defect free. It might need to be decontaminated though. Black isnt a color, its a full time job. You might want to look at a coating. There are so many good ones that are super user friendly now, and in theory they should be a little more resistant to scratches and swirls as well as provided a nice wet look, and giving long lasting protection.

Glad to hear your cancer free. I've been cancer free for the past 5 years so hang in there. Congrats on the getting the new camaro. Beautiful looking car indeed. Brave man to get black. Its a daily battle to keep black looking awesome but when its clean, nothing looks better.

You can certainly clay the new car and for a wet look, lots of good stuff out there. Black light from Chemical Guys is really good but been told on here, there are far better options than black light. With that said, I really like the black light from CG and V07 detailer spray.

I have a dark Kona blue mustang and its just as bad as black when it comes to cleaning it.

Thanks everyone! The black Camaro looks great! I have too used ultimate compound and had really good success. I have souveren I could use as a topper, but it doesn't last too long. I'm sure I use it some though. Any suggestions on a good carnuba as a topper that would last say 2-3 months without problem? I know the ultimate wax will provide the protection, but if I top with a wax I would like for it to look good at least a couple months. #26, griots best of show, griots premium carnuba, 3D carnuba paste wax, the new nattys black, have all gauged my interest. Any thoughts on these? I know there is a million different ways to get the same results, but part of the fun I guess.

The ultimate compound is great but won't be needed for a new car. You should just need a good polish to shine her up and then wax or sealant.

Try Collinite 845/Insulator Wax, it goes on THIN with a polisher and lasts forever.

The new camaros come with extremely soft paint. We just went through it with a 2015 Z28. Just looking at it scratched it. If i were you i would look into coating it or having someone else coat it with a pro level coating. One that helps with scratch resistance. No coating will prevent it, but some will help with resistance like CQuatrtz Finest or Modesta. It will save you in the long run

Congrats it's gone. The HD line is pretty easy to work with.

I got the car! Thanks for the response. I'll post pics when I get a chance. Totally blown away by the power and handling. I feel like a little kid.

That weird, all the late model Camaros I have encountered have had fairly hard paint. The black on my car especially. When I initially polished it out with the Ultimate Compound and a Megs new thin cutting pad, it took all the haze out of the paint (without adding any more hazing), but even though I worked it well, it still left a lot of the lesser scratches and RIDS behind. Now I know that using UC and a cutting pad isn't the most aggressive method, but still, I have had paints with similar marring before buffing, come completely clear.

Is it going to be regular black or Mosaic Black? If it's Mosaic Black we should talk before you get it, there are a couple things you'll want to look for before taking delivery. I just got done polishing mine yesterday. I used HD polish. I first went over it with a polishing pad, then back over it with a finishing pad. I'll be coating it with Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light then EXO as the top layer. I'll be able to post some pics tomorrow.

We have had the same struggle with the new camaros and vettes

Glad to know that you are cancer free. In the bigger picture don't worry so much about what products you use. Yeah right, we all love new products:) Maybe make a point to try one new LSP each year. At 10,000 miles a year I don't have to tell you to go out and drive. Enjoy that dream car:)
