Hey everyone. I purchased a new 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander for my wife this past weekend and I want to seal the paint and trim as soon as possible. I want to Clay, Polish, Seal, Coat of Carnuba and then seal the trim. With that being said I have been out of the detailing game way too long and don't have a ton of time to do proper research because the northeast PA HS baseball season is here and I will have absolutely no time to myself until July. With that being said I was hoping you guys could recommend your favorite products for completing the aforementioned tasks. I contacted the dealer this morning and he said that the car was not polished prior us purchasing it (It only had 2 miles on it when we took it for a test drive). Would you recommend Clay, Polish, Seal, Wax or can I use a very fine clay and skip polishing? I looked at the paint very carefully and I really didn't see any imperfections. I do have a Porter Cable and Lake Country Pads for equipment. I also have some 3D products at home (Adapt and Speed) as well as some 3M Perfect It II. Can you guys help me out here?

Thanks,

Jim

Congrats on the purchase. Somewhere in the mix, I'd recommend a chemical decon as well, with a product like Iron-X. By the time you complete the decon, you'll remove whatever weak protection the dealer put on it. For clay, I'd use the Griots Clay bar, as I think it's on the mild side. The baggie test would help determine if you need something more aggressive. If you do, I like the 3M perfect it clay. There are tons of options for a polish...and there are a couple of threads currently running about 'favorite finishing polish' which will either help you or confuse the daylights out of you. I like Griots Perfecting Cream. There are a lot of options for sealant as well. Griots 3 in 1 Ceramic Spray Wax is easy to use, inexpensive, durable and locally available, but is not very slick.....I like slick. I've settled on Wolfgang SIO2 sealant.....easy to use...very glossy and very slick...I've gotten six months out of it. If you really want to do a carnuba on top, I like Jescar Colorlock. For the trim, I'd pick up some CarPro Dlux.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the response Briar.

Here is something interesting. I just reached out to Wolfgang's and they recommended Clay Bar/DGPS Sealant/and Fuzion Carnuba since it literally has 65 miles on it. Then on top of that I asked him what polish he recommended and he said no need to polish but if you wanted to Uber AIO prior to the sealant would work well. The AIO is sealant/wax so i'm not sure why he would recommend it.

FWIW - I've used both the Wolfgang DPGS sealant and the Wolfgang SIO2 sealant....I like the SIO2 version better. I've never used Fuzion...too expensive for my budget.

Wolfgang does make a small, sample size of Fuzion. This is what I buy to use on my car. I never once had to buy the full sized pot because the sample size alone can last a long time. I saved some decent money by doing this.

2 months ago, I used the Griot's clay that briarpatch mentioned before applying Griot's ceramic 3in1 and I didn't polish afterwards. I'll probably do that later this year.

Where in PA are you?

Clay - Meguiar's C-2000 Fine
Polish - HD Adapt should work great
Sealant - Optimum Opti-Seal, or 3D Bead It Up
Wax - Optimum Car Wax, or 3D Carnauba Paste Wax

Thanks, I appreciate that. I actually just ordered the Wolfgang DGPS, Pinnacle Souveran, Griots Clay, and 2 each of black/white/orange Chemical Guys Hex logic pads. This will be the first time trying the CG pads as I typically use the LC stuff but thought I would give them a try. I'm almost certain that I have 3D HD Adapt, and 3D HD Speed at home also.

Did you buy the HexLogic or the HexLogic Quantum? I really liked the Quantum Orange pads

Good call..I found they dissipated heat better

Good to know. Do you apply your sealant by hand or with a machine? There are quite a few narrow areas on this outlander that I am going to hesitate using the machine on. maybe do the larger areas with the machine and narrow areas by hand. I will certainly tape off all plastic areas prior to application. I unfortunately don't have a smaller RO for the pillars and such. Since this is brand spanking new I really did think about skipping clay and polish because I tested with a plastic bag when I washed it yesterday and it seems like its extremely smooth. I honestly didn't even see a paint defect.

Same approach....machine where I could......by hand where I couldn't. With DGPS, a little goes a long way. Put in on thin

Well, I hot her done. Washed with CG Mr. Pink, Clayed with Griots, Washed Again, Polished with 3D ACA 520, Sealed with Wolfgang DGPS 3.0, 12 hour moisture free cure, and then topped with a coat of Pinnacle Souveran. Hit the trim with CG VRP (I need to get a good vinyl sealer) and gave the tires some shine with some old Megs dressing. Doesnt look to bad.
