Hello fellow geeks!! Love washing and detailing my new H'lander, however, down here in S'west Tx we have a lot of 'hard' water. I am still getting water spots even though I am not washing and rinsing in direct sunlight. I have a friend who details and he says I should spray a little liguid wax onto the still damp surface while I am drying and this takes away the water spots. What say you???Feed back please

Welcome aboard....very common problem. I have family in SE Arizona, and they suffer through the same thing. The elegant solution (as mentioned above), especially for "full" hose-driven washes, would be to tap in behind a water softener. (A DI kit is also very effective, but much more expensive.)

The third option, and honestly I think it's the best/easiest/cheapest, is to use a No-Rinse wash system. I love Optimum NRWS, and for this purpose it's very hard to beat. I recommend using a bit more of the product than directed, and obviously if possible, use softened water in the buckets.

Beyond that, if you can be fairly diligent about applying a good quality sealant as your last step (I'd recommend Blackfire WD/Four Star UPP as ideal solutions) you'll have a great line of defense. Wolfgang DGPS is another favorite, although IME it's not quite as durable as the others. However, it looks GREAT, especially on dark colors. If you go that route, perhaps consider upping the frequency in application. Good luck...

thank you all. looks like the water softener idea is something I will initially try. til next time, thanks!!!

Your other option would rinseless wash with distilled water.

Get Optimum No Rinse. It is the Swiss Army Knife of detail products. I keep a large spray bottle with a light mix available at all times. It works well as a clay lube, detail spray and an ounce or two in the wash buckets softens the water.

A trick I use (not invented by me) is to mist the whole car with ONR after the rinse to aid in spot free drying. This is pretty much a must for dark colors here in Arizona or else you drop dead trying to dry before it spots. I'm not near as fast as I used to be so I consider this a chemical enhancement. Oh we'll, I'm not riding in the Tour De France...
