My wife and I purchased a new black Lexus, and I’m thinking I want to do my first coating to protect it. I have a few questions first though. My biggest question is, how do I prep and coat that grill? I think they spray waxed the entire thing, so not sure how to get it out and the coating in. I’m considering a spray coating just because of that area, but not sure if I’m over thinking it. What coating would you go with and how would you tackle that grill?

Other random questions since I’ve not been active on the forums in a while.

Decent pre coating polish for what I assume is likely soft paint? It has a couple small spots I’d like to polish out. My M205 is a few years old so I’ll likely replace it regardless

Current favorite rinseless washes? I’ll likely get reset for typical bucket washes.

Current favorite trim protectant?

What’s your preferred interior cleaner? I have 303 as the protectant, but will likely need to do some spot cleaning on the NuLuxe at some point. So not sure my usual diluted megs APC is the best route.

Any other random bits of wisdoms are appreciated.

For the ceramic coating, I would do Gyeon Mohs EVO. Easy to use, decent longevity and slickness.

The grill would be a tedious pain to properly ceramic coat. I would just clean it and then apply something simple like Gyeon Wet Coat or Carpro Hydr02.

For polish, I've been using Rupes DA Fine a bit lately, which you would likely need to dial down with an appropriate pad on soft black paint. You might get away with something mild like Carpro Reflect or even Carpro Essense.

For rinse-less, I would lean towards P&S Absolute for the slickness, or perhaps DIY Detail Rinse-less if you need a bit more cleaning ability.

For trim, you would probably just use the same coating as you put on the paint. If you want a dedicated trim product, grab some Carpro DLUX. I've been coating trim with something simple like Carpro Reload 2.0.

I have always avoided using alkaline APC on interiors. Griot's Interior Cleaner or P&S Xpress are pH neutral and reduce the likelihood of discoloration. If your interiors don't get too dirty, then something like Carpro InnerQD, P&S Swift or even your rinse-less wash would be more than sufficient.

Hope that helps.

I wouldn't worry about the grill. GYEON Wet Coat and be done. Congrats on the buy.

Paint wise, GYEON Primer as the polish and base layer of protection. Then GYEON MOHS EVO or better yet, their dual layer SYNCRO EVO kit.

Here's a couple shots from one that I did recently.

I have a 2025 RX and the grille is a pain. I decided with mine to use some CanCoat and put it on buffing as I put it on. The alternative would be a ceramic spray sealant of course such a Resist or ADS. Obviously I used the conventional coating on all the surrounding surfaces.

That was a tremendous help. I like the idea of using Wet Coat or Reload on for the grill. That’d make life a lot easier. And I’ll be honest, I had no clue you could use the paint coating on trim.

Thank you for all tue other suggestions as well. P&S and DIY Detail are new to me, so I have a bit of researching to do.

Thank you! That car looks amazing. I’ve not looked into the syncro kits. Does Skin add a lot of the finished product?

If Primer is like essence, that sounds like a good way to go. It’d make tue prep easier and no worry if the paint was sufficiently clean.

I think a spray type coating is how I’ll have to do for the grill. The more I look at it, the more I dread getting bugs out of there.

How are you liking the RX so far?

Skin is a sacrificial topcoat that really enhances the hydrophobic properties. In my personal experience, it lasts about 18 months, including winters here in Ohio. I like it a lot and have it on 3/4 of my personal cars. Primer is similar to essence. Primer makes for easier coating removal. With their latest EVO lineup, removal is about as easy and clean as you can get.

I'm pretty hooked on the Optimum line.

I used Optimum No Rinse Wash & Shine at 256:1 in a trigger bottle for interiors. Even the endless varieties of condition cars come into the shop, it's safe and effective. Everything from high end exotics to domestics.

I never use soap unless I'm at work and the boss insists. At the home shop, it's just ONR.

All of their polishes contain additives that help with their protective products.

For that grill, I'd use Power Clean 3:1, rinse, dry, Paint Prep, and yeah, I'd probably coat all that stuff with Gloss Coat. I accused Gloss Coat on paint, trim, and PPF.

That's just me though.

There are many people on here that are more versed in the more fashionable and higher performance products, than I.

P.S. I also use 3D polishes too. They seem to play very well with the Opti paint protection products I use. AAT502 is their finest polish. It doesn't dust and is user friendly.

I recently went back to my original foam pad line up, which is the green, blue, and red Buff and Shine "Grip" pads. Same foams found in the Chemical Guys Hex Logic range. They don't yet make them in all the sizes I'd like, but I'm formulating a remedy for that.

Best of luck!

I 2nd gyeon primer. Ive used it with gyeon mohs evo, cancoat evo and also ADS quartz coating. In my opionion there was a real difference for the better in coating appication/removal. It is my go to.

A special thanks to ttq4u for recomending it. He is the one that got me on it.

On that grill i personally would use ADS ceramic sealant and or amplify.

I’ve used Griots and CarPro polishes and they’ve been easy to use everytime. If your paint is nice I would recommend Essence although I’m sure Gyeon Primer would be great as well.

For Rinseless I just got and really like Koch Chemie Rapid rinseless. I ‘be tried ALOT and this beats out Absolute, DiY rinseless OnR, Mckee’s (v1) and even Feynlab Pure (V1)

My next will probably ADS Hero as it has rated welll and I’ve been told it’s better than KCRR

For trim I’d use a trim sealant for atleast 1st year as they can take some time to off gas. Most coatings you use for paint will be fine for trim

My go to just because I got over 2 years in it but a Cerakote trim coating.
