Hey everyone, new guy to the forums with a new car and a new regimen! I'm no professional, so I hope you guys can give me feedback on my current process and help me with a few questions.
I'm the proud owner of a 2015 Honda Fit in a nice aegean blue metallic. I know the paint on these new cars is perilously thin, and I would really like to keep it nice over the coming years.
What I have done so far:
Washing bi-weekly and building up paint sealant. I've put about 5 coats of synthetic sealant on so far before it gets too cold for me to want to go out and wash it as regularly. The car will be parked outside for the foreseeable future.
Products used so far:
-Shampoo: Megs gold class wash and conditioner
-Sealant: Megs Synthetic sealant 2.0 (#21)
-Tire Dressing: ArmorAll gel
-Quick Detailer: Megs ulitmate wash and wax anywhere waterless wash
-Window Cleaner: Stoner Invisible glass
-Wash mitt: CG microfiber mitt
-Drying: moistened microfiber towels (lots)
-Tires: Tile sponges, one dedicated for rim, one for tire, Griots wheel brush for spokes, and a separate brush for wheel wells
Process notes:
-Wash method is two bucket with grit-guards, doing the wheels last once the paint is completely cleaned.
-Drying is with pre-damped microfiber towels replacing them frequently (I have about 50 on hand if needed)
Questions
-I've been a bit sloppy and gotten the synthetic sealant on plastic trim and it looks crappy. A pink pencil eraser has been effective at removing these, but I'm wondering if there's a product similar in protection and ease of application to the Megs #21 that would not have this behavior
-The armorall tire gel has been performing really well for me so far, but is there anything I should be worried about using this? I know AA products aren't well regarded by pros.
-I'm thinking of dressing all the plastic with CG VRP to protect and ease removal of any stray sealant in the future, good idea?
-Most important question I'd like to find a quicker to apply paint protectant that I can apply over the synthetic paint sealant so that I can continue to end every wash with a protective coat. Are their any quickwax-like products that can be applied over synthetic sealant and then also have the sealant applied back over the quickwax? It's not clear to me if Megs ultimate quick wax is synthetic or carnauba based.
-I understand that a waterless wash has more lubricant and is essentially safer than most quick detailers if I get a bit of bird-mess on the paint that needs a quick fix, is this true? Any reason I should be using a quick detailer instead of a waterless wash for these kinds of purposes?
Thank you very much for your help!
