My name is Matt and I found this site a couple weeks ago while looking for tips on getting rid of the marks left by a stray cat on the hood of my black Nissan Maxima. I have always been very particular about my cars condition and like to keep them clean, but black is going to drive me crazy(bad color when the ocd kicks in and I have to park it on different angles to look for swirls in the sun). I believe that anyone can make a black car look good in the shade but I like mine to look good in the sun. Its nice to see that there are many of you out there that are as obsessive as me. I am always up for any suggestion on products and techniques that will keep it looking as good as possible for a daily driver.

A photo would be good as to assess the damage from the cat.

How deep are the scratches as if they catch on your fingernail, the only way to fix them will be to use paint as when your fingernail catches, they've gone through the clear coat and are too deep to be buffed out.

Welcome to AG. You will need polish of some sort and a polisher, PC, Flex and/or Rotary

The scratches are not deep enough to catch you fingernail. I will get some pics of it up as soon as I can. My goal is to correct the hood and prevent as many new swirls as I can. It does look better that 95% of the black cars on the road but I think it could look better. Thank you for the input. I would also like to possibly get my front bumper repainted due to the typical bug stains and peppering that nissans always have. Is there any way to correct any of this until I get a chance to get it repainted?
