Hi everyone, I've been lurking for a few weeks since finding out about this site on the r/autodetailing subreddit.

I live in Savannah, Ga and I drive a 2011 Subaru Forester ~12,000 mi/year. It's parked outside during the day at work and kept in my garage at night. I've been doing the two bucket system, using Meguiars gold class soap, Mothers clay, and NXT 2.0 wax. I've never used a polish or sealant, but I bought a Porter Cable 7424XP (the $179.99 package that comes with a few pads and polishes) a few days ago along with some other goodies to try out.

I've taken pretty good care of my vehicle for the most part so I don't have a big swirl problem, though I do have a spot of tree sap on the hood and some bug guts I've never been able to get rid of. I tried Tarminator but that didn't get everything. Any chance the polisher can get rid of those? Could anyone tell me about how much of that bottle of polish should it take to do my car? I know its a rookie mistake to use too much.

I also work at a gym and am usually sweaty when I leave. What's my best bet against odor and staining? I bought a bottle of the Wolfgang spot eliminator to clean a few spots. I've been using a cheapo seat cover from Wal-Mart but it's always shifting around.

Last question - I've been using Rain X on my windshield. What products do you guys use?

I'm looking forward to learning a lot!

You going to need to remove any foreign material (tar, bugs or whatever) before you try to compound or polish or you will end up with that material in your pads and it will do harm to your paint. Try watching the Junkman2000 videos on youtube on using a DA. If you have the Mequires M105 and M205 products he shows exactly how much to use. You might try chemical guys fabric guard or Quartz fabric and leather coating. I like chemical guys air fresheners and odor elimination products. I have nothing for the last question.

I hope that helps Good luck let me know how it works out. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to AGO, can you post a pic of the area you are having trouble with. I'm about 45 minutes from Savannah. Here is a picture of a car I recently worked on that had embedded bug gut that destroyed the front bumper. This is after I detailed it. Granted I did not go all out because the customer didn't want to pay for an all out corrections.
