Hey guys I'm some what new and I'm 15 getting ready to start up my detailing businuess in may ( Carroll Customs Detailing) when I get my moms yukon when 16. Pics at bottom. Basically I just have been detailing cars over summer family friends and really got addicted I love chemical guys will never change and am on a plan with them to become a affiliate and a custom package for start up. Couple questions though getting my PC 7424 xp in may when I start up What do I do when panels separate? I heard you can make paint go bye bye if you use a machine in there true? Very nervous about that and would anyone from the seattle/eastside area wanna detail when I'm up and running haha? Basically saving up for paying half of the supplies moms got the other half and all my other money goes into saving up for my big plans with the truck anyone with a gm fullsize chassis should come over to tahoeyukonforum I'm regency over there so make sure to add me as a referal! Here's the truck

Starting early in life is a great way to learn early so you won't be making the mistakes most of did until we learned how to do things correctly.

You' mom is giving up her gorgeous Yukon? You have a very nice mom so her details are free for life!

Because of the dual action design, it's very difficult to damage or burn through the paint with this style of polisher. I have seen the results where the someone using a course pad and an aggressive compound then held it in one spot. He was trying to remove a scratch and ended up compounding, sanding, through the clear.

Sharp edges are always a concern and exercising caution in these areas is always a good idea.

Autogeek Online is "the" place to learn some of the finest ways to detail your car. There is a wealth of knowledge here for the beginner to the most advanced. A simple question is all that's needed to initiate helpful responses from members here and also Autogeek Professional Staff.

Welcome to Autogeek Online! It is very nice to see another young guy like get hooked on detailing.

I wouldn't limit yourself to just the Chemical Guys line of products. They do have great products and I have been using many of them. Although you would be missing out on other great products offered by different manufacturers.

Make sure you get plenty of practice in polishing out a car and have your process dialed in also. I would pick up your Porter Cable earlier so you have time to do that all.

Bobby supplied you with some great information above on polishing with a Dual Action polisher. Highly recommend soaking in and watching all the possible videos on machine polishing.

You'll get lots of good information from Mike and others. It sounds like you have a plan, and some backing, so learn all you can from the books and videos available from AG.

I wouldn't limit myself to one brand until you tried a few others, but like Mike says, "Find something you like and use it often."
 
Also young too, When I first started, I found some old turtle wax in my closet and a random pad. I now have a Da, huge amounts of towels, electrical cords, and product. I would first start off saying that you will need to get a large amount of pads. Autogeek has 12 meguiars pads for about 100 dollars. I would also get m105 and m205. These products are for cars that are a bit rough with swirls and RIDS. Also I would get two daytona wheel brushes and two guzzler towels.

Thanks mike I've already read all of those and the success stories what really motivated me was I forgot his name but he's in dallas or austin and he was jobless and flipped it over to 10 grand a month

True I've tried a few brands and it was basically the same only minus 2 plus I love there prices

Alright thanks for the pad help man and yeah weird last summer I was using dawn dish soap ( I know I know) and turtle wax

Welcome aboard buddy , read as much as you can in order to learn the business .
 
Also remember , look professional, you dont have to wear a suit lol, but maybe a collered work shirt. I would also get some mixing cups at costco or walmart. You could measure product easier and save. Finally, organization is important. If you have everything disorganized it will take much longer to detail and you will look like that smiley face. ----> :confused:

Get the Griot's GG6 instead of the PCxp..
You will quickly outgrow the PCxp, but the Griot's has more power and works faster.

Also, stick with 5.5" pads or smaller... Either Flats or Hydro-Tech (both by Lake Country), nothing else.

Consider learning how to work with a Rotary on the compound steps, it's very easy once you understand what's going on (many videos here on AG). Doing a full compound just with a DA is torture! But the final polishing step should be done with the DA, not with a rotary in order to finish swirl and holograms free.


Also, DON'T buy a kit... Buy separate stuff and assemble your own arsenal of products.. It may cost $5 more, but all items will be top quality.

Trust me I wanna look like a pro haha already got my businuess cards and getting just a black shirt made also a company decal for the truck

Alright I will look into that thanks but I'll probably just stick with the porter for now until I'm more comfortable with machine polishing
 
I would definately take a book with extra business cars and put them on cars on town that looks really bad. I would also use excel. Meaning use 1 spreadsheet for inventory, 1 for what you sold and 1 to add and subtract needs and profits. I would finally charge 15 dollars extra for suvs. Make a fine line what is an suv, when a customer argues that his or her car is smaller, show them why its an suv
 
I already thought about that and probably will and I'm trained with excel but prefer just to use paper in a binder for tracking I'm old fashioned and yeah I have my prices and everything in line thanks alot bro all of you guys are really helping!

Don't let anyone try to discourage you because of you age. We all were young once, and many of us started as 'younguns'.

It takes practice and technique over the kit or products. I feel you are better off building your own. A couple pictures of what you are working on and an idea of your goals would be great! :Picture:
