Hi, been lurking & learning here for ages. Currently driving a 2006 M-B E350 and planning to dump it for a new Subaru Outback.
Moved back to the Pittsburgh area and need the AWD for all the snow that we didn't get down in Virginia.

The Merc seems to have a rock-hard clear coat so it never needs much work to look good - well, at least passable. BUT since I'm moving to the Subaru - soft paint and all - I need to beef up on dealing with a more "needy paint scheme.

I'm going for a black one since they dropped the Deep Indigo Perl from their array of color choices and I'm getting a bit scared.

I'm thinking about a clear bra because there is very little uglier than paint chips on a black car so I will have my work cut out for me.

Looking for advice on which clear bra to choose and beginning to gather info on how to deal with that soft Japanese (made in Indiana)? paint.

Any help appreciated.

In my opinion clear bra's are worth their weight in gold if you live in the north. They sacrifice themselves to protect your cars finish....

Re: Clear bras

Thanks for the quick reply, Bobby. Any recommendations on which bra is "invisible"? I haven't dug too deep yet but found a couple mentions of a few but nobody had any pix so I could make a judgement.
It will obviously follow that what is the best way to treat it - sealants, waxes, and care in general.

For your PPF (clear bra, et al):
XPel Ultimate!!

A suggestion...
Get, at the very least, these panels covered:
-Front clip
-Full hood
-Headlamps

Re: Clear bras

Thanks FUNX,
I always wondered how a partial bra could be truely invisible with its cut-off line. I guess covering the complete hood would be a better treatment.
How does the EPel version look when polished and shined up - or can it be?

Do you have to do everything on the car before applying to clear bra?

-You can polish the areas to your satisfaction pre-install
-The installer will be using several different "liquids"/tools for installation purposes.
-I use XPel's very own Sealant to "shine it up".

•Here's a picture of a front clip and hood with XPel (clear);
and the headlamps/fog lamps with XPel (smoke gray):

Pictures of an installed clear bra are going to difficult to find because they're...well, clear and meant to be invisible.

Here's some information on 3M's Clear Bra product...
