Hello everybody. I'm new to using first class products such as those offered by Autogeek and am expecting my 1st shipment to arrive tomorrow. After lots of research I went with the flex3401, orange, white, and blue CCS pads, Wolfgang auto wash, total swirl remover, polish enhancer, deep gloss paint sealant, and Fuzion estate wax. Hoping to make my 2014 black Impala look at least half as good as some of the amazing shines posted on this site.

I have a couple of questions. I was contemplating getting a 4" backing plate for the flex so I could use the 5" pads in the narrower areas, but I just read a couple of posts that said the 6.5" will work just fine with the 3401. Do you just use the edge of the pad for narrower areas?

As stated above I have a 2014 Impala. There are some fairly sharp edges on the side panels. Do I stay off these edges completely with the flex, or is it OK to go over them with 1 pass? I definitely don't want to burn through the clear coat.

Thanks for the help.

Welcome to AutoGeekOnline!

Congrats on the order! You picked up a boatload of good stuff.

If you can swing it, pick up another machine such as the GG3, GG6, PC etc and fit it with 3" plate and pads for those smaller areas and keep the Flex equipped with the larger plate and pads. This way you have each tool set up and ready for its respective areas.

For the other areas in question just run up to the line with the machine and back down. Same thing goes for the opposing panel. You don't want to fold the pad over sharp panels when compounding.
