So some of you might remember that I started a new job as head of maintenance at a hotel/restaurant after 21 years at a marina. I'm really digging it so far.

But anyway, the new company I work for has a program that brings foreign kids from all over the world to work for the company on a visa. Very cool program. There are some really great kids from China, Thailand, Brazil, etc.

There is this one kid however from Portugal. He has been staring at my truck since Monday. He watched me leave for lunch one day, and since the hotel is right on a 55mph main road, I had to hit the gas a little to get going and chirped the tires a bit.

Today, (in pretty good, but not perfect English) he told me "This truck is very shiny. I like this." I thanked him. :xyxthumbs:

Then he asks me what "Hemi" means since he read the badge on the fender. Well, it would be hard enough to explain what a hemispherically-configured head design is to most anyone, let alone an 18 year old kid from Portugal. So, I told him it meant Power. Lol

Bottom line is, I'm gonna give him a ride tomorrow and hit the gas a little harder than normal.

Very nice of you to share your automotive passion with another automotive enthusiast.

Must have felt nice when he noticed the shine on your truck! Way to go buddy!

Your company indeed has a very cool program to give opportunities like that for others to experience.

Thanks, Marc.

All of these kids had to pass stringent academic standards in their own countries, and be approved by not only my company, but a few U.S. regulatory bureaus as well.

In short, they are in this country legally. And all of the kids are hard-working and very smart.

Wonder if the young man has
any interest in motorcycles.
H-D had a long history in using
their version of "Hemi" engines.

Here's a pretty good view of a
hemispherical combustion chamber:

Come on Paul, be a pal, throw the kid the keys and tell him to have it back in a half hour!

So I took the kid for a spin today. He was grinning from ear to ear after I nailed it and sent him back into the seat. Gave me a great feeling as well! :)
