OPTION 1
Wolfgang Porter Cable 7424 Swirl-Free Kit

OPTION 2
Meguiars Porter Cable Ultra Polish Kit with 5.5 Inch Pads, Meguiar's Mirror Glaze Polishing Kit, Meguiars polishes, Porter Cable 7424 Mirror Glaze

Im new to detailing and im looking to get a good starter kit that will allow me to do moderate swirl removal and paint correction on my 2011 Honda Fit(Milano Red). Im torn between the two kits ive listed above and im hoping that you guys can give me some pointers on where to start as well as what other tools and products i will need above and beyond these kits....:buffing:

Welcome to AGO!!

I would go with the 5.5" kit. PCXPs cut better with the smaller pad.

Option 2. The porter cable needs 5.5 " pads. The 6.5" pads will not provide the results you are looking for.

if you are going with a PC then you want no bigger than 5.5 inch pads with a 5 inch backing plate so that means option 2 is better right off the bat.

are you set on getting a kit though? For around the same money you can get some 7/8 inch thick 5.5 in flat hydrotech pads (tangerine and crimson) a couple MF cutting pads, and smaller bottles of compound/polish and some nicer microfibres

how about the Wolfgang products vs the Meguiars Products....which will provide better results on Honda(soft) paint?

to answer your question....NO im not dead set on ordering a kit i thought it would be easier doing so though.

the hardest part about making the decision is that most of how people answer is option and everyone has a different one! lol

are the hydrotech pads better that the ones provided in the kits?

I agree get a setup with 5.5 in pads. If your fits paint is in good condition you shouldn't need anything as strong as 105 yet. No matter what you decide don't forget to add a free sample of something else to try.

If your paint is in good condition I would go with wolfgang and add a few more pads. One of any given color isn't enough.
Plus you get a sealant with the wolfgang kit

i was wondering that too......

how does the wolfgang combo compare to the meguiars M205 and M105?

the thinner the pad, the easier it is for a DA to jiggle and spin it and transfer that motion to the paint.

I also prefer flat pads b/c I don't like how the dimples in the CCS pads trap product. Makes them harder to clean etc etc...

please post a link to the pads you recommend. there are so many colors...based on the condition of the paint im working with i would think i would need a decent cutting pad a polishing pad and one that would strictly be for sealing/waxing. I plan on getting a few of each.:props:

Wow you responded as I was changing my post :)

Both are tried and true setups but I love sf4500 or wolfgang finishing glaze. All depends on how soft the paint is. My silver honda fit's paint is pretty soft.

haha i just noticed that too....it was washed by the dealer over the winter so i have some decent swirls and toweling marks. the paint is soft too so im concerned about my product choice....i dont want to go too aggressive because this will be my first correction.

When I started off I had all ccs pads and over time I have seen why every one loves the flat pads especially the hydro techs. My ccs pads didn't hold up well and the velcro on the back of the pads goes to the edges protecting them from the backing plate.

thanks for the headsup:dblthumb2:

These are the pads. There are only 3 colours

Lake Country Hydro-Tech 5 1/2 x 7/8 Inch Foam Pads 3 Pack - Your Choice!

There are also the new LC hybrid pads but I haven't had a chance to try mine yet...

While they were not made for the da I had no problem using them on a gg rop. I like the hybrids a lot but I swith between them and hydros often.

Based on ease of use , price and sizes available the hydro are a great choice in a build your own kit senario.

Consider a 3" plate also and some 4"or 3" pads for the tight spots.

what is the advantage of the hybrids?

Different foam and designed for the flex. Personally l love the beveled edges.

Im not sure if there is an actual advantage to using them over hydros. With the pc the 6.5" pads may be hard to use and the 5" use a 4" plate forcing you to use a 3.5" for the pc. So with a pc and a 5" plate the advantage goes to the hydros.

All in all lake country makes some good stuff and you woln't be disapointed even with standard flat pads. The other advantage of hydros is there are only 3 colors so it is a bit of a time saver.

This is a hobby for me so I have way more than I need to care for my cars. I bought the hybrids originally because I liked the edges and how the pad angled away from the backing plate. My backing plate " ate" a couple of ccs pads but you wolnt have that issue with hydros, or regular flat pads.

Sorry for the long post
