Hey, I'm new to the forum and relatively car detailing. About a month ago I decided to attempted my first detailing. I went to my local auto shop and picked up some products after doing some research. I went ahead and picked up the whole line of Meguiar's products. I started off by taking my car to the neighborhood car wash. After the car was washed, I used the Meguiar's clay kit on it. There was any deep scratches on my car so I went ahead and used Meguiar's ultimate compound on it, followed by the ultimate polish, then the gold class carnauba #plus #liquid wax. I applied most of this with a turtle wax orbiter that I bought. I used a foam bonnet to apply, then a microfiber bonnet to remove. I was very pleased with the outcome. Now my question is should I add a sealant to mix and if so any recommendation? I want to start washing my car by hand now every week. How do maintain the shine in between washes? A Detail spray? Also to mention, my car is kept outside 24/7. I read that you should only have to wax the car no more than twice a year and a little more for polishing. If anybody can point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated .

Bump for answers...I wish I could help I'm not an expert.

First off, welcome to AutoGeek. Glad you took the time poke around and sign up.

You've picked up some quality over the counter products. Meguiar's wouldn't produce them if they didn't deliver exceptional results. I use Ultimate Compound quite a bit. It cuts fast and leaves a wax ready finish. I can't comment on the Ultimate Polish but I've read good things about it. Gold Class wax is a great finishing wax.

Now that you're off on a good start, I'll answer your questions. You can certainly add a sealant to this mix. It'll last longer than Gold Class will and leave a super slick and shiny surface. But you'll want to put the sealant down first. If you're wanting to keep with all Meguiar's products, then you'll want to pick up Meguiars #21 Synthetic Sealant 2.0 for a long lasting sealant. If you want to branch out and try a different line, then DP Poli-Coat Paint Sealant, polymer paint sealant, auto paint sealant, DP Policoat paint sealant, paint sealer or Collinite Liquid Insulator Wax #845, liquid wax, heat-resistant wax, car wax are a couple of excellent options.

If the weather is fair, then washing it once a week will keep it shiny. And since you say it's outside 24/7, I know you'll run into a problem of trying to keep it super clean, (my car is also exposed 24/7). I don't bother with QD's or anything, simply because, for me, it's an extra step that can put unnecessary scratches into my paint. If you want to boost the shine after a wash, then Meguiars Ultimate Quik Wax, spray wax, synthetic spray wax, quick wax, meguiars quick spray wax, paint protectant, liquid wax, meguires, meguiars car or Chemical Guys V7 Optical Select High Gloss Spray Sealant Detailer are some excellent spray waxes to use.

And disregard those articles you've read. I would go for a minimum four full waxes a year, in addition to however many times you wish to spray wax. I do two polishing a year, once in the spring and once in the fall, with a mild polish that takes away some swirls while bringing the paint to a glossy shine.

What kind of car do you have and what is it's current condition?

wash it every two weeks if desired

for a sealant use bfwdps

dont use turtlewax anything.

needs to be waxed more than twice a year

polishing is only needed, when needed lol there is no set time for it etc

:welcome: To Autogeek Online!! :props:

A quality spray wax works well here.

Spray Wax -Optimum Spray Car Wax or Duragloss Aquawax

If the car is parked outdoors then I'd recommend a quality sealant as these provide the longest protection available with the exception of the new hard permanent coatings...

Sealants

Wax

Waxing can be done as frequently as yo desire but generally every 3 months. Cleaning the paint or polishing the paint needs to be done twice annually under normal conditions.

Get spray wax or paste wax or both? and why?

A quality spray wax acts like a booster to keep the protection going day after day. Once through washing and rinsing, this is the perfect time to give the finish a thorough going over with a spray wax...

Okay, thanks to everyone for the information. With that being said, it's fine to add a sealant to my routine? And if so add it before I wax it? To ziggo99, I have a 2009 Hyundai Accent. Bought it brand new in 2009. The finish on it is pretty good, but it does have a couple improfections on it. Also as i stated earlier, I use a turtle wax orbital buffer. I figure it was better than doing it by hand and plus it was cheap, I believe $25.

three final steps can be glaze sealant wax in that order
however you'd be fine with a glaze/sealant glaze/wax sealant/wax or just a wax, or just a sealant.
