Hello all, been doing nothing but reading and research for the last couple weeks. Started with Mike's book and went from there. I've had my 14' GS 350 Obsidian Black for about a year and unfortunately, you can tell the paint wasn't well taken care of previously. I've always done my own wrenching but not detailing. Even found out doing research that I wasn't even washing it right. This forum and the information it has provided thus far has been invaluable. So thanks in advance. Now I've got things to purchase and trying to narrow things down. Looking forward to finding the right products and correcting my paint!

Current Tools / Products / Process Have usually stuck to GG products but I'm wanting to see what else is out there.
Chemical Guys Foam Gun / Citrus Wash 2 bucket approach with dirt catchers. Pat dry with microfiber towel.
***Need to add Iron Remover here I think

GG Complete Compound
Meguiar's Ultimate Polish
GG Best Show Wax
1xGG Fast Finishing Pad (Used with GG Compound)
1xGG Correcting Pad (Used with Meguiar's UP)
1xGG Waxing Pad (Used with GG Best Show Wax)
Process was followed in Mike's how-to video for paint correction, etc.

I did a test spot on the hood last night and it came out to what I feel is pretty good; however, I would like better results. Need to grab a swirl finder for better results as well. Above products were because they were what I had on hand or were close by for purchase. Didn't want to go crazy shopping on AG if this wasn't something I felt I could tackle. Well, I am certain now that it is but am having difficulty deciding on products.

You got started off on the right foot with Mike's book. Plenty of valuable information. You will soon find out that you dont own black, black owns you.

Yes, lol. I'm finding that out, owned several black cars before but never really 'knew' how to take care of them. I am now excited about this newfound labor of love. I tried searching but is there a specific forum section /thread that discusses success of products on specific manufacturers paint? Just curious as I thought that might be a good place to start when purchasing products I'd like to use for the foreseeable future. Otherwise, I'm going to be picking up a Lake Country 5" backing plate and pads, couple other misc. things but still researching products as that is where I'm stuck right now :(
 
Welcome to AGO, Mac.

I have a couple of suggestions:

Switch from the Meg's UP to something else. I have found the UP works ok, but it sucks to remove. (GG Correcting Cream removes easily).

And, you definitely need more pads. 4-5 of each pad minimum for a car.

I'm looking for a whole new kit of products honestly as they are a bit old. Definitely more pads, narrowed it down to a 12 pack of Lake Country but not sure on what type would be best or colors. Looking for a solid product kit that folks have used with success on this paint (without marring) and there isn't a whole lot out there from what I can find specifically for this paint. Been eyeballing a specific kit, just unsure on the pads.
