My father in law asked me to wax his motor home. He said it will be clean and he has already purchased his wax. I was dreading the chore and realized that I own a Porter Cable 7336 "Orbital Sander". I had never thought of using it for polishing.

My 7336 unit came with a foam polishing pad. I'm looking for information on what else I should purchase (bonnets, etc. and specifically what types) in order to efficiently apply wax and polish it.

Do bonnets with string slip around, or is there a better way to fasten them to a foam pad? Does the wax creep through the bonnets and into the foam? How long do they last/how many do you think I'll need?

Any tips on techniques (motor speed, etc.) would also be appreciated.

Now that I've realized that my "sander" is actually also a "polisher", I may get inspired and quit hand waxing my cars :-)

Thanks - Randy

Randy,

I just got setup myself and have a 7424 (pretty much the same as yours, yours was a combo setup I think). I bought a CCS kit, a dozen microfiber towels, and a 6 pack of bonnets, and a few other things. If you go a watch a few of the Mike Phillips videos (free online here), they are worth it. Expect to spend a $150 or so to get setup right, and you'll need a bunch of bonnets if you are going to do a motorhome in one day and use them to buff off. Here is the kit I got:

BFPK-200-CCS - Dual Action Deluxe CCS Foam Pad Kit

I've only used the gray pad as I did my new car, but I'm going to try some of the others on our older cars.

I really spent a week or so (a hour or so a few nights) looking through the forums and website here before I ordered.

I had a cheap 10" polisher before and it's really junk compared to using a PC 7424 or the like.
