Well I have been doing what I thought was "detailing" cars for some time now, but realize after reading and researching the past several months that I have been washing cars and washing them poorly.

So I am ready to dive into detailing and am ready to make some purchases to get some good stuff. Let me know if I have the right idea or if I should change anything:

PC 7336
Pinnacle XMT Int. Swirl Kit
5" Backing Plate
Pinnacle Pad Cleaner and Conditioner
Pinnacle Clay
Guzzler Microfiber drying towel

I have some Meguiar's wash and some other wheel and tire stuff to use up before I need anything (at least that is what I think).

Thanks for all your help.

well you might need a protectant (wax or sealant) and a qd'er but that should get you going. Then the bug shall start ....

I agree. Looks like you've got it down. Just need some protection for your paint.

I'm confused...don't the XMT Swirl Kits come with the XMT Carnauba Finishing Glaze, which does protect. Here is a clip from the product description of the XMT Carnauba Finishing Glaze:

"It’s perfection and protection in one! Use XMT Carnauba Finishing Glaze as the finale to your detailing process. To increase depth and brilliance, top the glaze with Pinnacle Signature Series II or Souveran wax."

I can understand recommending the addition of one of the waxes for increased brilliance, but not necessary from a paint protection standpoint, eh?

The carnuaba finishing glaze does have some protection, but nowhere near what you will want to get past the first couple of washes.

So if I throw in some Souveran Liquid Wax, I should be good to go? I honestly forgot that but did have it on my list at one point.

A couple other questions:
- Is the Guzzler good drying towels, are they worth it?

- The question I can't seem to get a straight answer on is whether to apply and/or take off the wax with the PC?

- Lastly is the 5" backing plate the right one?

The guzzlers are worth every dime. Their soft and light, one decent guzzler will do your whole car. You can apply the wax by PC, but i preffer to do it by hand i'm not sure theres much of a difference.I wondering if it may dimish your LSP if you use a PC. Again you won't be disappointed with guzzlers .

Any guys here apply your wax by PC ?
