I’m currently detailing a Nissan Armada that the owner told me will be headed to Mexico as it’s new home as soon as I’m done with it. So my 1st thought, especially after noticing that it’s sitting on a set of Michelins was “I’d like to put something that at least stands a chance at lasting on those tires” because the odds are most tire dressings probably won’t last very long at all. [I have very little faith in Michelin tires]

So I decided to head down to the local Oreilly Auto Parts to pick up a bottle of Mr. Cartoon Tire Coating but to my surprise it was nowhere to be found. I checked my phone and it turns out it’s nowhere to be found locally anymore. I think TW website claims it’s available directly from them but who really knows if that’s true because I don’t have time to wait as I needed it now.

Oh well, another 1 bites the dust. It was actually a pretty decent tire coating for what it was. I still have a tiny bit left, but nowhere near enough to coat 4 tires.

Now my only choices are Megs Hyper Dressing and a spray bottle of Black Magic that looks like baby oil which I assume has better longevity but looks like you sprayed baby oil on the tires. [a friend of mine gave me that bottle of Black Magic. I would’ve never bought that on my own]

I had a look on their website but couldn't find it, only the tire cleaner that went with it.

I guess Turtlewax would say the alphabet soup product would be its replacement. It's total junk though, probably the worst tire dressings I've tried.

Turtlewax Hybrid Solutions Graphene Acrylic Tire Shine Spray Coating (yes, that's the whole product name)

Amazon still has the spray coating.

Also I agree the Hybrid Tire shine is pretty bad. My OTC favorite is Cerakote, but it doesn't last like a true coating. It does make it through several rain storms though.

Unfortunately all the remaining acrylic coatings have gotten very expensive, Tuf Shine, Ghost, Optimum. They seem to have added ceramic to the McKee's so they can charge $50 for it. Dr. Beasley's seems to be coming out with a new tire/trim product, but that will surely be very expensive also.

I doubt that's a comparable product to the Mr. Cartoon which was an acrylic like Tuff Shine, the old McKee's 37 coating, Optimum, Ghost, etc. But you have used it, and I haven't.

Unless I've misunderstood your comment, but the alphabet product is also "acrylic". Either way, the concept is the same, the promise of a longer lasting "sealant" vs a "dressing". My problem with it, apart from the ridiculous name, is that it looked terrible and would cure with a blotchy and uneven finish. And to remove it, you needed a sledgehammer.

I think we've been through this before, the acrylic coatings are fundamentally different than the other products, they are not sealants or dressings, they are coatings. They take on a blue hue as they cross-link.

Yeah, I understand that. I was just questioning your comment regarding Graphene Acrylic not being a comparable replacement for the also acrylic Mr. Cartoon.

So there’s nothing OTC that’s anywhere near that ballpark? I’m pretty much done with the vehicle but still have it until tomorrow and the tires & plastic trim are all that’s left to apply.

I’ve already prepped the plastic trim and it’s getting Blackfire Tire & Trim Sealant. It should turn out real nice. Looking forward to that being 1 of the highlights of the detail.

I don't think that Graphene Acrylic product is anything like Mr. Cartoon (the one Eldo pictured). The real acrylic coatings aren't sprays because they would clog the sprayer after one use. If you notice, Ghost doesn't come with a sprayer anymore, it's got a pull-top now.

I'm not sure why we're talking past each other on this, if a product has some acrylic in it, that doesn't make it an acrylic coating. It's like comparing a ceramic detail spray to a glass-bottle coating.

So there’s nothing OTC that’s anywhere near that ballpark?
I'm not aware of any "real" tire coating OTC. Amazon doesn't have the OPT or Tuf Shine, they do have the McKee's.

The Graphene Acrylic is also very thick, but is supplied with a sprayer to fit with the rest of the hybrid solutions range.

I simply provided the OP with a similar over-the-counter solution, one made buy the same company and with a similar concept of being an acrylic sealant. Both are listed as having "ceramic" in them as well. So, perhaps this is just a rebrand or mild reformulation?

Also, to be fair, without being a chemist, what other conclusion can someone expect to come to when both products from the same manufacturer list "acrylic coating" on the label.

I would have thought you'd be grabbing a bottle of Megs Endurance, that would give the customer a longer lasting finish. I used it for a few years before moving onto cleaner water-based dressings.

Nothing to add here other than the fact I've never heard of that line from Turtle Wax as I never saw it stocked on shelves in my area. Were there other products in this "Mister Cartoon" line? When I saw the title of the thread, I thought you were joking and created a nickname for some other well known product.

It's disappointing when a product you know and love gets discontinued or altered. You lose a lot of time and money hunting for something to replace it.

The Turtlewax Hybrid Solutions Graphene Acrylic Tire Shine Spray Coating mentioned I never had issues with? It is what I am currently using.

Yes, there were other products but I don't think anyone on the forum used anything other than the tire coating. Klasse was using it, if you go to post #24 in this thread he talks about it: https://autogeekonline.net/threads/so-whats-the-replacement-for-turtle-wax-tire-coat.125947/page-2 To your second point above, that thread was about replacements for another discontinued product.

Endurance looks ok, but I was hoping for something alot more substantial than that. I hadn’t even considered Endurance since I consider this old bottle of Black Magic that I almost never use to be in the same realm except this stuff doesn’t look as good as Endurance applies. I wouldn’t have much faith in either one on some Michelins.

It was a short lived gimmicky line similar to the Meguiars DUB line of products. 1 hit and that’s about it. It’d be cool if they rebranded some of those good products and integrated them into their other product lines instead of completely discontinuing good products.

But like we found with Meguiar's and others, these companies are all competing for Planogram space on the shelf, and if the product doesn't sell, they can it and try something else. If I'm not being clear, Walmart isn't going to put every TW product on the shelf, so both Walmart and TW have in interest in displaying products that sell. If Walmart says we're not going to waste shelf space on this Mr. Cartoon stuff because it's not moving, then TW doesn't have interest in producing it anymore.

I may not know what I'm talking about, but I'd say it's like having prickly pears on display in the supermarket and since only Eldo and I are buying them, the manager uses the display space for oranges and tells the buyer not to buy prickly pears anymore, so the farm decides to plant orange trees instead, and...no more Mr. Cartoon.

PS The last time I had a prickly pear might have been the last time I was on Olvera Street.

Correct. That’s what came to mind within a couple of minutes of me trying to find that tire coating on the shelf at the store. I thought to myself, if I don’t see it then there’s no use even asking about it since it’s obviously gone and + there’s clearly not enough room on these shelves for every product.

Apparently I don't get no Olvera Street cred, oh well.
