Well I was hoping to be able to do a better cleanup of my dad's new Camaro before he took it out for our cities yearly "Street Wheelers" weekend. But it didn't get back from the mechanics until the day of, so we had 2 hours to clean it up. It had old wax residue and lots of tar + sap, that was our main concern. So we went at it with some 50/50 alcohol+water, it was still hard getting the tar off, had to pick the bigger pieces off with fingernail-ouch I know. The clay bar wouldn't do anything to the tar+sap spots. Also had to use Pinnacle Paintwork Cleansing Lotion for the old wax residue on the lower panels, the alcohol mix wouldn't take it off.

It was then I realized that it doesn't have a clearcoat, as the foam pad I was using started turning blue. However the cleansing lotion did a very good job of removing the old wax residue.

So now that I have more time to do a full detail, I have a few new questions.

With non-clear coat paint, can you use a clay bar? What kind of polishing can I do? I just got the Menzerna line, SIP, IP, FPII, Nano, and Sealing Wax.

If I polish it, will the pads be garbage after or does the paint clean out properly?

If polishing it is kind of a hazy area, well then would it just be best to use Red+White moose glaze over the car, covered with Liquid Souveran? and maybe some AW?

I have only done one vehicle with no clear coat and I clayed it just like normal, I didn't use an aggresive clay...actually I used my bro Ricardo and it worked just fine. I didn't have any problems.

Again the only vehicle I detailed with out clear coat, I started off with really, really light polish and pad and I gradually worked my way up. I used Menzerna Orange pad (finishing pad) with Final Polish II and it removed lots of swirls...the paint was quite soft and the owner and I both agreed that that would do. I used my paint gague and there was plenty of paint, actually there was lots of paint but I explained to him the pro's and cons and he said he would be happy with 90% swirl free and that's how it wen.

I'm still using XMT pad cleaner and it cleaned my pad really good, I just made sure I was cleaning my pad often and didn't really let the pad get to saturated. It worked okay for me.

That's all I got....hope this helps a little.
