Is it my imagination, or does everyone here notice that dark colored finishes are hard to care for? Especially the ones with a 'soft' paint job like my Honda. Fine scratches, swirls and cobwebs. Thank goodness it's nothing too deep nor too extensive. And then there are the water spots from the recent rains we had a few days back.
I've gone over just about every aspect of my detailing, from washing, to drying, to applying and buffing off LSP's. I've even reviewed how I wash, dry and store my MF's. I've found the guilty suspect. And the suspect is sitting in front of this computer right now....moi.
I washed and waxed my car last week. After washing I inspected carefully using one of those 18 volt Ryobi flashlights. Incredibly bright, white light. Some swirls, but they are inevitable on a dark colored vehicle.
Then I applied the OCW, and can now remember just how hard I was buffing. I don't know what came over me. Maybe I just wanted to go home and eat, cuz I was starvin' like Marvin. Or maybe I thought ( in my own demented way ) that buffing hard and fast will make OCW shine even more.
Upon retrospect, the words: "Not-such-a-big-hit" would be an understatement.
I never noticed this problem with the application of BFWD a week prior, because I was slow and cautious then. Guess it's time I got back to basics and re-familiarized myself with the proper detailing techniques. A "How-To" guide and "Detailing for Dummies", if you will.
I will detail my car again sometime this week, giving it a full polish and wax application. I think I may skip the BFWD and go straight to OCW, just to see what OCW looks like by itself.
And this time I will be using the tried-and-trusted "B.L.U.S.H." Method: BUFF LIGHTLY, U STOOPID HEAD!
In the future, I will be considering what Rsurfer and others have recommended: either Wolf's Chemicals Hard Body or OPT OC. AG does not carry the Wolf's Chemicals line at this time, but there is a Hawai'i based outfit that does. And since me and the missus will be going there for a vacation in the near future, I think I'll pay that place a visit.
Happy Detailing, everyone!
