I know it's probably futile as the bird poop etching has gone straight through the clearcoat but is there any possible way to reduce the sight of it without having to repaint the whole hood? It's such an eyesore and located pretty much in the center of my hood. I did order a porter able that should be here tomorrow but I don't think it will do much. Would using touchup paint help? This bird etching was on the truck when I bought it a couple of years ago. I didn't know much about bird poop etching and thought it would just clean off when I purchased it, I was wrong. Thanks.

Terrible news. I would rather be punched in the face then have that happen. Sorry for your loss :(

Considering the rest of my paint job is in pretty great shape and you have this happen on a main focal point just sucks.

If that's the clear flaking off...you're pretty much done. It might be an interesting Dr. Colorchip experiment, though.

I haven't noticed it flake. About a years ago I tried scratchx by hand and I must have rubbed too hard and actually got red paint on my applicator.

Man, that sucks! Sorry to hear. You could try the Dr. colorchip touhup with sealact solution. Not sure how well it will stick but it looks like there is enough paint gone that it might. After you smear the touchup paint you let it sit for about 5 minutes and then wipe back and forth very softly with a flat piece of an old soft t-shirt. If it takes off paint from where you want the paint to stay then try again and let it sit longer before the sealact step. The most I have let it sit before the sealact step is about 1.75 hours. I didn't deal with anything near that big though. Not sure how it will come out. Then wait a good few weeks and lightly polish and seal or wax.

Maybe first you carefully wetsand the main area with a 3000 grit before doing the dr colorchip step?

I do have dr colorchip coming in the mail as we speak.

Looking at it at an angle you can see the clear coat is clearly gone. I do have a paintscratch clearcoat pen I could use after I apply dr colorchip to fill in the missing clearcoat. Not sure if it's going to make a globby mess though.

Not sure how to edit my first post but here are a couple more photos:

That angled picture helps.

I would go with my first post. Assuming it matches as well as they did for my Sky I think you will be able to make this look a lot better. The etching is deep enough that I think it will work. Do like I mentioned and start with the seal act solution not long after. It will most likely take off more paint than you want but then just try it again later with a longer time before the seal act until you kind of get a system and a good feel for what wait time you need. If it doesn't stick well after maybe 4 tries then there are a couple other ideas to get it to work.

Yeah, that doesn't look that bad in the other pic. Good luck and let us know how it comes out.

I got got my dr colorchip in the mail today and the color looks pretty spot on. Should I first porter cable the etching with an orange pad and Menzerna Super Intensive polish or with scratch x and see what happens before applying paint. I really want to get rid of the white lines in the etching.
