Novice question on Size

I am entering into some car detailing and have a quick question.
I just order a 6" Griot's Random Orbital Polisher.

I will likely polish rarely, but wash and wax quite a bit. So my question is after researching a bit: To start out I was thinking of one of these two options:
1. Buy a 5" RO Conversion kit from Griot's and 6" MF Bonnets - so convert it from a 6" to a 5" RO.

2. Keep the 6" BO plate and buy the 6.5" Pads and 6.5"MF Bonnets.

After waxing by hand this weekend, the more difficult part of the job is the wax removal for me, so that's why the MF bonnets. I plan on putting the MF bonnet over the soft Finish Foam pad using a high speed. (and hope that right from what I read)

I have a small sports car that I will likely do most of my work on, so not a large vehicle. I am leaning to 1, but would like some advise. The cost between the two is about a wash, since I have to buy the additional BU plate vs the more expensive larger pads.

Use the DA to apply the wax. If it takes that much effort to buff it off, you're using way too much.

You are probably right about too much, so yes the DA will help there. Also I am using a paste, not a liquid. Should I switch to a liquid wax/polymer with the DA?

I still want to get folks opinion about 6" vs 5". Should I change my DA out to a 5" BU plate right away, especially for a sports car, or should I leave it as a 6.5?

Definitely get the 5" set up. Much easier control, better rotation, and as you are only doing your own small car, better access to tight spaces. etc.

Another thing to consider would be to add a 2 or 3" backing plate & pads for tight (A pillar) spaces.

But that aside, get a 5" set up for sure. You won't regret it.

i wouldn't use a bonnet to remove anything on the paint as there is a potential to create marring. if you apply your LSP thin, it should wipe of pretty easy. look into using an AIO (if the paint is in good shape and you only want to freshen/spruce it up a few times a year) as it will clean, remove light defects, and add some protection (many of them can be worked in and wiped off). purchase the 5" GG vented backing plate and some lake country 5.5" thinpro or GG BOSS 5.5" pads...

5" will be easier to use, and with a "lower" power DA will give you more correction.

As for the wax, just use less. A little goes a very long way.

Thank you I went with the 5" BU plate and 5.5" pads. I am sure over time I will get more accessories and product. Just want to start off right.
