Thanks you you guys I have Collinite paste wax and bi-weekly sessions with Duragloss rinseless on my car, that cling to the finish like a free-climber to the side of El Capitan.

Now it's springtime. How do I get this stuff off? I know that Dawn doesn't work. I've tried. At least it doesn't help with the Collinite. Is a good whack with Citrus wash sufficient, or should I try something else?
 
Use an APC then polish the car. You should have a nice clean surface to start with after.
 
The proper steps are to clay the car (+/- Iron X), and then use some type of product designed to polish paint on the paint. The product can be a paint cleaner or a polish.

Trying to chemically strip you LSP is doing nothing good for your paint.
 
It's very hard to actually remove an LSP chemically. It's faster and easier to use clay.
 
I'm not convinced claying removes a good LSP. Never seen any proof of it actually removing a LSP.

I agree. If you clay correctly, the clay should pretty much glide over the paint everywhere - except where contamination is. Dudes who remove LSP with clay are prolly either scrubbing their paint with clay or just not removing it. No wonder there are so many "marring with clay" threads. I marred my paint with clay as well - before I knew how to do it correctly.

One the other hand, if your going to polish - you should always clay first. Since polishing with *something*'is the correct way to remove your LSP, claying is just a part of the polishing preparation.
 
I don't want to use abrasives unless it's necessary to correct scratches

What kind of all purpose cleaner do you guys recommend? First choice is over-the-counter. Second choice is cheap mail order.

As others have mentioned, a good way is a paint cleaner, sometimes called a pre-wax cleaner. Something along these lines:

Soaking a car in APC isn't necessarily the best thing for the rest of your trim.

To answer your question, my favorite is P21S Total Auto Wash.
 
I had clayed and waxed a small portion of a car to test my wax about 2 weeks ago. I clayed that section last week and the clay had a slight yellow color to it. Now it might have been contamination but I think it picks up at least 80% of the wax that on the surface of the paint but leaves the wax that's I'm the small swirls and imperfections.

After nearly a year and 30+ rinseless washes with Duragloss, it seems a little dull, with a wax buildup.
 
Respectfully, I doubt your car has any kind of "wax buildup". Aquawax is not a wax, and I think we would all love it if we could actually build up anything on our cars. It's not like an industrial floor with finish on it that gets dirty or yellowed and has to be stripped off.

It's more likely that you simply have some wash swirling and some accumulated contamination on the paint. The most straightforward approach would simply be to clay and reseal with your Collinite. Certainly you can use some sort of prewax cleaner or AIO instead.

When was the last time the car was clayed or paint cleaned or polished?
