anyone here think that there's a limit for how obsessed one can be for keeping their vehicle clean? granted, i have my grand prix in the garage (single bay to attached house) and my dad has his jeep laredo outside. i love my car to bits and the fact that its no longer produced and it looks so nice all done up, has barely any blemishes on it and makes it really rare and quite the cherry to see. my car is currently dirty cause i like to wait for a decent temp to wash. my dads laredo has 1 quarter size dent, a few dings and scratches, bad headlights, faded front bumper, the inside is discusting and it smells like weed. HOWEVER today it is 29 out on my deck and he's outside washing it with the hot water hooked up to the hose. he's washed his truck 3 straight days (with dish detergent after waxing in the fall) and there's salt, sand, and snow on the ground and doesnt want to take any of my advice about using actual soap and not dish detergent. sometimes he asks me to wash it for $10 but if i say no cause im busy he gets pissed off. anyone out there think that there can be a limit where it's just too much even though everything he does is just wrong?

family is family. you apparently care the correct way for your car. on the other hand your dads methods are questionable. (dish soap? really?) fine line here. if he cant take your advice, i would leave it alone and let him care for his jeep the way he wants. his waxing in the fall has just been stripped off by the dish soap.

Are you asking if we think you are too obsessed with doing things the right way, or if Dad is too obsessed about having you clean his Jeep? I'm not completely understanding the question.

Makes me think such things as... Who's house and garage is it? Is it Dad's garage and he's being gracious enough to allow you to park your cherry ride in there? If so...IMO you should wash his Jeep anytime he asks for a wash...and for free. Now if it's your house and your garage, and Dad's living there with you paying all the expenses for the household...then it seems things are in the proper order but I'd still give Dad's ride a free wash from time to time, but if I were in the middle of a ton of things he should be able to wait till the time is right or run it through the local auto wash.

Maybe my reply is a bit more personal than you'd be expecting. Just me thinking out loud I guess.

my parents are divorced, the house is now in my mothers name, he still lives here cause he's still trying to find an apartment, she insists i park my cherry ride in there and my mom is paying for all the bills.

right thats what im saying. i mean if one wants to wash their car everyday im fine with that, whatever. granted i know my car is dirty, but id clean it when the temp is acceptable to do so. and its 29-30 out right now. oh well, i guess its like trying to beat a dead horse.
