Are the current models that much better than those made 5years to 7 years ago?
Or are they basicly the same?

Thanks

The 7424XP is a better machine to the old 7424. However, with that being said, I'll tell you that I'm on year number 11 with my old 7424 and have probably a thousand hours on it. No problems whatsoever. I'm fairly sure you can expect that kind of performance out of the XP as well. Considering a used 7424 will set you back dang near what a new XP will cost, you can't really go wrong with either one.

Check out the discussion between me and Steve aka xxxc5 in the below thread... especially his comments to me in the first post and my follow-up in the second post of this thread.

WG TSR/FG & PC 7335 Technique

Myself along with probably a million other people have buffed out millions of cars using the first generation Porter Cable DA Polishers but the truth is the new XP model is dramatically better at maintaining pad rotation when the pad is under pressure and this is the "secrete" to removing swirls when using a DA polisher with a Free Floating Spindle Assemble.

The Free Floating Spindle Assembly - The Story Behind The Story...

But for anyone reading this that has a first generation Porter Cable DA Polisher, here's an article that will help you get the most efficiency out of your first generation polisher...

And remember...

"Thin is in"
(You can quote me on that)

Thin is in... New Lake Country Hydro-Tech Low Profile 5 1/2 x 7/8 Inch Foam Pads

And check out how thin the new Meguiar's Microfiber Pads are...

Thin is in...

It's real simple... it's all about pad rotation...

Thin pads rotate better than thick pads on DA Polisher and it's only when the pad is rotating that correction work is being done... in other words, it's only when the pad is rotating under pressure that swirls, scratches and water spot etchings are being removed...
