Once again about pad and BP size compatibilliy

If you look at the design and imagine you're tilting the machine and thus the pad and backing plate, first thing you are going to hit is foam. Shouldn't cause permanent damage to the paint, you know? You'd have to tilt the body of the polisher more than 90 degrees to be at an angle where there is any possibility of the hard plastic hitting the paint. Two things working against that: On most panels the body of the machine will hit before the backing plate can. The exception being the ends of things, like headlights, spoilers, or you're just getting crazy and looking for trouble. The second thing is that the corrective surface, the microfiber, only covers the flat face of the pad and a bit of the edge. There is not a whole lot of incentive to try to use much of the edges for correcting, because most of the edge is support foam.

Maybe I'm missing something, but that's how I'm picturing it in my mind.

This has been bashed so many times, but now from Megs and their MF system there is an offer with 6" BP to be used with 6" MF pads.

Meguiars DA Microfiber Correction System 6 Inch Starter Kit, dual action polishing kit, paint correction kit

Why is this different to other situations where same size BP is not recommended to be used with the same size pad?!

Because they aren't the same size - the 6-inch Microfiber discs are actually 6-1/4", while the S-6BP backing plate is actually 5-3/4" - so a 1/4" allowance all the way round.
